That may be true, but I'm still trying with one of my side projects.

If for no other reason than it's a difficult problem and fun to hack at.

I wonder if developers are so interested in recreating social media because they’re so familiar with it. To me, the “hard” part of what social media is, is the escape velocity (a pure business/serendipity problem) and the algorithm’s slow-feed of addictive content while keeping the users none the wiser. The site itself, db, interactions, etc only become hard completely unrealistic scale limits are met
