Dang, I've always considered mathematicians as being on the whole very intellectually honest and not fame-chasing. At least Dedekind still managed to earn his place in the mathematical pantheon.

Also, a 20-something stealing glory from a 40-something is an interesting inversion of the usual roles in this kind of abuse. I wonder if that's partly why Dedekind let it slide.
