In 1979, Equatorial Guinea first president and notorious dictator, Francisco Macías Nguema sent most of his family (his wife and 3 of his kids) to North Korea. As it goes, Francis asked Kim Il Sung to take care of them should anything happen to him. A few months after this, he would be executed in a coup d'etat orchestrated by his nephew (who still rules the country to this day).
As it turns out, Kim Il-Sung kept his promise, taking on a guardianship role of the children and sending them to the best schools in NK. Monica, the youngest child, who would end up spending 15 years in the country before deciding to leave in 1994, tells her story.
