TL;DR the new book uses Party archives and argues that soviet support was crucial. Also interesting / Sad that Marshall's openness to including the communists gave them enuogh time to benefit from the Soviet support. Perhaps it does give credence to, or at least help understand anti-communist paranoia in that age (though I certainly don't want to support their logic generally).
