I realized how different the Iranian definition of "democracy" is compared to Western democracies when I was discussing Iranian elections with a regime supporter.

Me: "What about the Guardian Council having veto power over presidential candidates?"

Him: "Well, you can't let a goat herder be president!"

Say what you want about American democracy, but we do let any idiot run for president.
