Group 4: those who thought that just maybe they'd learn something about Perl 6, but were instead treated to some someone whose apparent inability to express themselves in the English language has led them to rely on 'fuck' as a crutch. I guess the title was a giveaway.

I was more put off by the fact that I was expecting an article about programming languages but got an article about the social dynamics of the people using programming languages.

This is like an article titled "How to fix Lisp" filled only with advice on how to appear less smug.

It's a rant. It says it's a rant.

It was aimed squarely at the rest of the perl 5 community; masak's post, which I do link, was aimed at the perl 6 community.

You'll find much of the rest of my blog is significantly less profanity-heavy, but being as subtle as a brick to the face was precisely the point here.

I would expect that the serious number of "fucks" just go to indicate how pissed off the poster is about the issue. Overuse communicates utter frustration. You'd need to see how the post usually talks to know for sure though.

Well, he is fucking right. The fucking point being that the fucks in the Perl 5 camp need to get the fuck off their high horse and move on with the fucking business of Perl without being defensive will end up benefiting both these fucking camps in the end. And who the fuck knows, maybe if we get more familiar with both fucking languages we can fucking communicate and improve both fucking codebases?

.........

Fuck.

Precisely what I was trying to say.

Also, you and reddit between you really fucking upset the web server there for a bit; I've opened MaxClients up a bit and we seem to be serving rather faster now.

I found some context for this after searching around a bit.

A potential new Perl programmer goes to #perl and is told that Perl 6 isn't Perl then goes to #perl6 and is told Perl 6 is the new Perl but if they want to Get Things Done they should use old Perl.

The F--- Perl 6 post is more directed at a Perl 5 audience. This companion blog post for the Perl 6 audience. These are both bridge building attempts.
