Rant: I was banned from Reddit once again yesterday (for the 100th time) because of my harassing behavior. The comment that caused this was about "daily Scrum meetings that were way too long in most companies." I'm dumbfounded about who would have reported this, and who confirmed that this was harassment.

Reddit may be fine for very specific subs, but overall it's a real mess where power hungry mods have fun without any kind of accountability.

HN does not have this kind of behavior and I don't really miss the lengthy conversations that can be found in other forums.

To be honest, I don't think anyone around me have read this ridiculous article and it's for the better. It was posted on Friday, and people are enjoying their week-end today, I only stumbled upon it because it's on Hacker News.

I'm dumbfounded that a journalist wasted a few hours writing his thoughts on a tiny shitfest from Twitter.

"Me too." I learned the piano because you have to learn the piano. And you have to play classical music because there is no other stuff and most teachers only like classical music.

My parents had the same reaction with computers: programming is stupid therefore you can't enjoy programming at such a young age, the parents decide for you. 30 years later, I still love programming and would never do anything else in my life.

Edit: When I think about it, the greatest music players on earth have an almost religious or orgasmic experience while playing music, while our parents saw that as yet another chore equivalent to what was taught at school. It's ridiculous.

A bit off-topic but those "Francisco Partners" ringed a bell. They are the same idiots who bought Verifone in France, fired everyone, and expected outsourced developers to understand and use a 20 years old codebase with specifications and requirements (multiple PDFs with more than 2000 pages) written in French.

If it happened to LastPass, I now understand why they have so much problems.

> I would be astounded if a majority of people actually enjoyed their jobs.

This is what I try to remember when I'm bored at work. Programmers may be overworked and underpaid, but we still have the luxury to do whatever we want from time to time, and make our own training by reading APIs for new languages because we love that shit.

I have a lot of friends who work in various fields, and I'm pretty sure they don't "love" their jobs as much as I do (even when micro-managers are annoying me).

Recently, I quit my job because the managers became crazy and I told me friends "it's fine, I found a new job in less than 24 hours and it pays more and seems fun." I had to explain them how the programming world works since they didn't believe me at first.

In France, I have the same 3 months period where I still have to work. If they decide to lock my computer during this period, I'm free to stop working and tell them to provide me with a new computer ASAP since I cannot do anything at all.

Unless they want to fire you and then they still could remove those 3 months and give you some money instead. It would be stupid of them to give me a free salary for 3 months: either they fire me properly, or they give me a computer.

Another question that has not been answered yet: What happened to all the great arcade games of the Dreamcast? In 40 years it has been my favorite console so far and I would love to play again all the good games it had. The only fun alternative is the Neo Geo but the graphics are a bit outdated.
