I think we're showing our evolutionary background, in particular greed. Having our monetary system essentially controlled by powerful private interests is a disaster too.

A key point I think. I'm not sure it is a minority feeling, but more a case of active propoganda/cultural influence that keeps 80-90% of people complacent ("We're the good guys! This doesn't feel right, but they just told us we're the good guys! Keep working!").

I agree it's catalog is rubbish, but in Australia there are a great many Bollywood, Nollywood and various other International films influxing lately.
Can't imagine what a mess all this licensing etc is. Such a non-productive waste of time.

I was pleasantly surprised my place had FTTN (100/50 I think I can get if needed). Absolute boondocks of Tassie, mostly agricultural/tradesfolk I'd guess. Seems odd but I'm glad they did.

I agree (and probably made it on to a list or two). Our government agencies don't even need a warrant to see our call/web/email metadata now. Even the RSPCA can access it.

I just don't understand this, even if students were asking for it. It's a poor language whipped up in a week or two - is it really what you want to base someone's first exposure to programming on?

Why on earth?? I don't get why the engine would be executing JavaScript, even if it were sandboxed, in the first place? That doesn't sound sensible.

Oh I have to get this off my chest. So many companies saying "Yes, we're sort of agile, but we have a fairly bureaucratic structure that is unamenable to change".
If you're not agile, stop lying about it. I saw a job on Seek the other day advertising a DevOps roles - turns out they want a helpdesk operator. Stop lying in job ads, and stop drinking the kool aid.
None of it helps.

Then you get the NSA, the ASD, the rest of the clowns coming in and ruining it, and what is the point? Are we all just fighting each other in an ape war?

The final straw for me was an outsourced dev asking me about time estimates for an agile project that other developers had estimated for.
"How much time will this take?" (Very demanding Asian boss in Australia Post)
"No idea, might be quick, might be complex, I don't know your environment."
"Well, developers have said 8 points. How much time is that??"
"I don't know".
His response: "Stay behind after the meeting, I need to talk to you about respect for authority".
Fun times.

What can anyone do? This corporate free-for-all seems like it's established (de-facto) in the United States, and all countries must bow to the US because of their military might.
We pollute, consume, lie, steal and cheat each other like it's normal practice. Where did we go wrong.

I think the problem is, it's very configurable. To the point, some towered architect somewhere can make those decisions for you, about how you want to work, in your absence.
Out of the box, I'm not sure, I don't think I've ever seen it. If what I've seen is out-of-the-box, it's awful.
