Thank you! All these Mac people think Apple Invented Everything.

I have no idea why Arduino is so popular--it has NO debugging support unless you use an ICE. (People "debug" with printf statements.) We use Netduinos because with .NET we can single step and inspect variables in live code.

There are power plugs on all the Trans-Pacific United flights I fly. What airline are you using?

DHJSH | 10 years ago | on: A Step Toward Protecting Fair Use on YouTube

I just wish they'd help me when there's no copyright infringement at all, so there's no need for a "fair use" argument--but I still get an infringement notice.

This happens, for example, if I sit down at my own piano and record myself playing some unambiguously out-of-copyright work, for example Mozart, Chopin, or Bach.

Just last week I got a notice from a record label because their matching software identified a Beethoven piano piece as being that from one of their copyrighted recordings. It wasn't--it was me playing.

Google should stop allowing companies that do this access to their content match system.

1. Organic, Pure, Maple Syrup at Wal*Mart

2. Pears in pear juice (no other sweeter). WalMart's own brand: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Fruit-Pear-Halves-Bart...

3. Organic sprouted whole wheat bread: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Alvarado-St.-Bakery-Sprouted-Whole... (All bread needs some "sugar" for the yeast to work on. Some that say "sugar free" get sugar from milk or fruit juice.)

DHJSH | 10 years ago | on: Stop Scaring Your Cats with Cucumbers

These owners in some of the videos will regret scaring their cats near their litterboxes, if the cat becomes afraid of the area.

(I have no rules for my indoor cats because I don't want them to become neurotic. I don't try to "train" them off of countertops, etc.)

DHJSH | 10 years ago | on: Visual Studio Code is now open source

Are you seriously comparing Eclipse to Visual Studio? I use both of them. Eclipse for CUDA programming, Visual Studio for everything else. There's no comparison. Eclipse is a buggy heap of crud. Visual Studio just works.

DHJSH | 10 years ago | on: Ask HN: What's your opinion on the new TLDs?

I think the war's over and .com won. These new TLDs will always make a company seem sketchy (with some exceptions for companies that have mostly an app presence, or for certain tech segments.)

DHJSH | 10 years ago | on: Call for an urgent rethink of the ‘health at every size’ concept

300,000 people die every year from Obesity. It's our #1 killer. And it can be solved by eating less.

See this study in the NEJM:

http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199212313272701

Discrepancy between Self-Reported and Actual Caloric Intake and Exercise in Obese Subjects

Of all the "diet resistant" subjects studied, ALL of them (100%) were grossly underreporting actual calories consumed and overexerting physical activity. Some of the people in this study were on medication because doctors had believed their self-reported numbers and believed they may have had thyroid or other metabolic problems.

Remember that "bariatric surgery" is just a way to get people to eat less by making it physically impossible to overeat. (Of course, people still manage.)
