Truly overwhelming amount of paperwork and taxes that must be satisfied from day 1?

I can form an LLC in my state online in 30 minutes for less than $200. You could just fill out a "Doing Business As", but the LLC takes the place of that. Once that is done, then open a business checking account using the LLC name. Do you live in California or New York?

I'd buy a phone without all the bells and whistles. My current phone has a calendar, stopwatch, email, games, and web browser, all unusable because the screen is the size of a postage stamp and there is no attached keyboard. But it makes phone calls pretty well and that's all I want in a phone.

Yeah it's tough to keep them working for you on your plantation when they have their own 40 acres and a mule.

How much of the silliness in U.S. health care is caused directly by the tax code? For instance the largest health insurance company in my area also owns several hospitals. The hospital charges the insurance company for a procedure. The insurance company pays only half that amount. The rest I believe is written off by the hospital as a loss which lowers their taxes. But both the hospital and the insurance company are the same company.

A friend of mine, when filling out the paperwork for joining the army, listed as his race "North American Indian." He's a caucasian with a dark complexion, and he figured (rightfully so) that being misrepresented as a minority might be helpful in the future. Years later after he finished his Masters program I wonder if he got into the university because of affirmative action. In fact he might have taken the slot of a qualified black student. That would be something.

An ex-ski racer told me the young racers are faster than the older racers not because of athletic ability but because the young ones haven't taken a serious fall yet.

The way it works is you will never be cleared, the security-theater machine has eaten you.

In other words, being on a security watch list is like being diagnosed with cancer. You're never cured. The symptoms are just in remission and can resurface at any time.
