That type of behavior can only be bad for open source software. Threats like "to minimize file and repository impacts" are going to push more folks toward private repositories if they don't understand that it's not an actual authority pressing them into making changes on a given platform.

He's not making an argument for the elimination of ads, bloat comes in so many different forms. Loading entire libraries to solve trivial tasks, dragging in massive images where they don't belong, etc.

Apparently several other messaging apps behave similarly, from the replies in that tweet there were mentions of Facebook Messenger[0] and Telegram[1].

EDIT: Saw the Safari reader view comment below and ended up using Edge's reading view for this. That makes it tolerable but I really shouldn't have to do this.
