Hi I have lots of years of fullstack experience including leading small groups of junior devs. I'm looking for fulltime remote work using some of the tech I list above.

Justen | 7 years ago | on: Ask HN: How do I ask for a raise?

I recently went through some interviews and was trying to line up offers at the same time but what ended up happening was one would come in, and I'd still have a week or two process with the other company. Even telling the 2nd company I had an offer or one coming soon to speed things up made it impossible to get two offers at the same time. One offer would sit for a week and that seemed to be as long as they were willing to wait, so my question is how did you line these timetables up so that you can get more than 1 offer without risking 1 expiring?

You also use the sand when your tires are stuck in the snow.

This isn't wishful thinking, I work with a 100% remote dev team and communication skills is one of the top things we screen for when interviewing. I assume other remote teams also value that skill.

Justen | 9 years ago | on: Ask HN: Do I have to go through recruiters nowadays, how do you find new jobs?

> You're not like to negotiate a higher salary than you would without the recruiter

This is a bit facile because it depends on if you know how to ask, the financial standing of the company, if you can actually find a recruiter that'll go to bat for you, and a dozen other things that can affect the final outcome. I think the average outcome to expect however from the recruiter side of things is that they would rather make a deal now, than spend time negotiating for you. The same can be said for real estate agents. This is admittedly anecdotal from my experience, but I think a lot of people will agree.

Justen | 10 years ago | on: Ask HN: Most hacker friendly laptop on the market?

I've been using a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd gen) with ubuntu on dual boot no problem. It's pretty thin like that other brand, and has good battery life in both OS, like 6-9hrs depending on use. Visual studio and netflix? 6hrs. Coding in a text editor: 8-10.

I'll just give you my take on the situation. You can back out and maybe offer up another developer you know to replace you as a gesture of good will. Or, since you mentioned feature/scope creep, sit down with your client and come up with some precise details for what they want and what you can deliver. Right now it's just this abstract mess of a project and that can seem daunting not knowing exactly where the boundaries are.
