"Our work is driven by a belief that software should be free and accessible to all." We can um and ah about what free and accessible means, but Mark Shuttleworth continues to push the goodwill of the community, testing where its breaking point might lie (see the new secret features development system, and Amazon ads/spyware built into Ubuntu 12.10). Hence, this "Bug #1" is just empty posturing that attempts to ride on the rapidly evaporating goodwill of the community.

Poor Dustin - he has such a hard life. Don't let the bastards get you down...

... about your taste in cutlery.

Awesome site. Just awesome. The page transitions and text reflow are brilliant.

That big box on the right full of whatever that is (chat/twitter/whatever) is just a void that not only doesn't interest me, but means what I am reading (which is why I would be on the site if this wasn't a well-played usability test ;) is off to the side. I guess you'll iron out these kinks as time goes by, but yeah. That box on the right is just an ocean of who cares, to me.

Also there is a bug: when you are editing text in the chat box, it flicks pages back and forth.

Anyway I'm off to donate to your IndieGoGo campaign. Good luck with the rest of the project!

edit: had another look - I guess that box makes sense when you're collaborating on a story, but pure reading mode might be good as a default?

Magenta | 13 years ago | on: I don't want to "hack" the Y combinator application.

There are a lot of people who say 'hacked' in lieu of normal words for normal day-to-day tasks like 'did,' 'accomplished,' 'wrote a blog post,' 'watched,' 'logged in,' etc. We're apparently a long way past the point where most 'hacks' are actually worth discussing.

"How I hacked airtime by logging on and talking to people"

"How I Hacked My Breakfasts by Switching From Muffins to Crumpets"

"Hacking your toilet routine by using three sheets of toilet paper per wipe!"

Usability test failed, because what looks like a main menu is a bar of ads. That is just going anger anybody who feels they have been fooled into clicking an ad. I suggest removing it asap. You're going to lose people from your site before they have even looked around

Sure, but euphemism just doesn't fall under the umbrella of 'plainness,' in any way, shape or form. So you can't be euphemistic and tell the plain truth. It's just a bollocks statement.

Magenta | 13 years ago | on: HappyEdit: A Vim-inspired, modern, open source text editor

No offence, but as far as I can see, this does nothing that can't be done in vim (or one of its forks) with pathogen/vundle and the extant plugin ecosystem. Also I doubt people will want to pay if there is no native editor/terminal support. ;(

That might just be the first time Steve Reich has been mentioned in relation to Gangnam Style!

ps To the author/s (if you end up seeing this): was there a reason you didn't center the content on the page? Might look a little better. Just a suggestion :)
