MartinAlbertsen | 5 years ago | on: Dr. Seuss books deemed offensive will be delisted from eBay
I understand why certain material can be deemed dangerous or wrong to have in public. There might be information that is intended, or has very high likeliness to be used, for harmful use. It can be filtered out - although I believe it will most often just keep it in the dark. Think "how to cook meth at home" or "how to make a bomb". Thats another talk for another day.
But this case is driven by fear of public opinion, people being offended (too easily) and trying to erase events from history.
If you see a negative or wrong stereotype used in literature, use the chance to talk to the kids. That will break down stereotypes and teach kids about the time that they are born in.
Also. Hitler happened. It's a thing. Reading "Mein Kampf" does not make you a nazi or dangerous. It makes you informed. Censoring it out does not change the fact that it happened. And we need all generations, current and future to understand the horrible that has happened. Not just the beautiful things.
Ebay and Amazon (and I'm sure many other companies) should show some character and have a bit more backbone!

MartinAlbertsen | 7 years ago | on: No Tuition, but You Pay a Percentage of Your Income if You Find a Job
In Denmark (where I'm from), there is a system where education is free. There are private schools, but to my knowledge no private universities. Your entry ticket to a university is your grade from high-school. You actually get some money while studying. You can still chose to do a studen loan on top of that, but typically people come out of university with maximum $20k in debt most way less.
I have many friends that are absolutely brilliant and successful, who would probably not have been able to afford a university degree.
One thing is what that does to the crazy debt many people get in other countries, but think about what it does for low-income areas, immigrant and integration and general inequality of a population.
By all means, Denmark is not perfect. But I think we nailed it with access to education.
And yes. Our tax pressure is pretty high. But surprisingly not that much higher than for example California and NY.

MartinAlbertsen | 8 years ago | on: Ask HN: Huge enterprise customer wants to see our source code
Would be good to know if its SaaS or something that goes into their datacenters.
If you are SaaS, I would not share source code. Ever. I often get questions from potential enterprise customers, and while pushing back is not always easy, the reasons are respected. One argument is that you are protecting other customers/tenants by not allowing it, and you will do the same for them when they are onboarded.
If its in their datacenters, there are many reason they might want to see source code (licensing, security, scalability etc). But i would still argue you could keep your core algoritm IP out of that.
Other thoughts: Are they vetting you for potential acquisition?
