>Make sure your face is well lit

To do this, make sure you have your window in front of you, and certainly not behind you (backlighting is awful)

If you are on a call at night, or in a dark place, make sure your laptop screen is not your main source of light: if someone shows a red slide, you will look red.

If you did not need to pay when you need healthcare, if education was free with equal opportunity, and everybody had enough to eat and a half decent place to live, I would entertain discussing this.

You could have this today in the US, it exists elsewhere. Yes, it would probably cost a bit more for the wealthiest people.

Until then, I believe we should not try to justify inequality based on irrealistic theoretical arguments. I see just a ploy to preserve the current situation by people in a good situation.

Because inequality and poverty is all too real. It hurts real people, unfairly. In the US. And it could change.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: Spy pixels in emails 'have become endemic'

Yes, I understand the caching part. If Gmail proactively loads/cache the unique pixel before users open the email, then the email reporting is garbage. If they wait for the person to open the email, it is very interesting (even if repeat are not tracked).

I am very impressed with what you did, and thank you for sharing the back stories about dealing with manufacturers and the real life pains of troubleshooting customers.

This is real, tough entrepreneurship, and I am very surprised by the number of implied criticisms about how not perfect your product, price, positioning...

The number of issues you solved already, the fact you have a happy installed based is impressive. Further iterations will make it even better, feels like you've done the hardest part.... Congrats.

If Gandi folks read this: I am curious to read your post-mortem analysis on this.

I was seriously thinking about bringing some domains back to LiveDNS. I am thinking that after this, you may even be a little better at your job. Transparency is key here for me, even if you messed up.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: How a janitor at Frito-Lay invented Flamin' Hot Cheetos (2017)

Richard Montañez has all my admiration for what he achieved. This is a beautiful story.

Unfortunately, those kinds of stories also play into the narrative: be a good model employee, make sure the floors shine and trust that hard work, and great ideas will make you deservedly insanely rich. Because there are smart CEOs who will see all of that

Cinderella, capitalist version.

Too rare to be significant as a policy. Most likely does not scale. Too often, dreams are useful to convince people to accept their fate.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: All problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone (2014)

What helps me is to walk, instead of sitting in a room. When I walk, my fidgety body is kept busy, and leaves my brain in peace, not even costing any brain-cpu cycles.

Then, it is a lot harder to reach to your cellphone when you walk. So it helps me get rid of 2 major distractions, body and phone, with very little effort. Now I can think.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: Google fired employees for union activity, says US agency

Maybe you just don't know? The simple fact that some people want to unionize shows your picture may differ from reality.

I know some people at lower levels (blurring, moderating) being laid off just before one year just because they don't want to consider them as full blown employees.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: Deno 1.6 supports compiling TypeScript to a single executable

I am trying to do this too. But I would like to make it work on MacOS as well. The problem there is Safari does not let you connect to localhost over http. So if Safari is the preferred browser of the user, you need to convince them to change, which is hard.

Or is there à better way there?

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: Humans are remarkably safe at driving

Why is the self driving ecosystem trying to solve every driving challenge, which is very hard, rather than focussing on highway driving, ideally reserved lanes, high speed and close cars. And progressively expand those areas "reserved to self driving card" over time. It feels like it would bring a lot of value while reducing complexity a lot. If this is a silly question, please let me know why.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: Diego Maradona has died

Most countries on earth don't really play baseball. In those, the huge majority of people have never heard of Babe Ruth.

Mulpze15 | 5 years ago | on: Diego Maradona has died

Because it is part of the game, hate it or love it. English players and fan where pissed, but Maradona got away with it, so respect. All of them would have done the same if they knew they could get away with it. Especially in such a big game.

Plus, it's just a game, nobody died. And it's fun to watch how a very small player beat a giant keeper through creativity and boldness.
