Live Tiles doesn't have interaction with them, and they're on a diffrrent ecosystem. This is the equivalent of "You want a notification on iOS? Get an Android"

No offence, but a designer posts a drawing on Dribble. A UX Architect, explains every step in the process and how and why it works that way. Notification Center gives you information that happened, but not that you might need and the two finger pinch is to limit the number of buttons required for the action. It is also a natural action to make something bigger to see more, like a picture. The beauty with this concept, is that if you don't like it, you don't have to use it, everybody's happy!

Great points you're bringing! To be honest I'm always up for more options. Why not offer separation or the current solution for all users, although I think that it would be hell to manage two very different ideas.
As for the different modes per screen, why not? It would be nice to have a clean shortcut to say switch environment, but just for the active screen. Basically it would transfer the apps on that current screen from Desktop mode to Metro mode, so it is a workable solution.
As for the app imersion problem, that one is tricky since... well Metro apps are not specifically designed for a mouse and keyboard, it works, but it's not the best. So is the Metro environment. So my point of view is you're using an app not optimized for mouse and keyboards in an environment not optimized for mouse and keyboard... so by bringing Metro apps to a window environment, you're slashing half the problem.
The core idea is you have all your apps, files and stuff on your computer, now how do you want to interact with them. It may not be the most gracious idea, but it's better than trying to get the charms bar with your mouse or being stuck trying to resize windows with a touchscreen on the Desktop.

Basically, I talked with Albert Shum the Director of UX of Windows Phone that is now in charge of Windows and Xbox too. He told me that he has been working on the Desktop but most importantly, at a unification of the three designs (W, WP, X) and that I would be great in the new central design team as a problem solver.

Thank you very much guys! Microsoft actually got in touch with me and I am going to Seattle for a day or two in the coming weeks to meet the design team.

That's why I added at the top of the post a WARNING line! Actually, just the Wikipedia screenshots I added are enough to spoil, thus the reason of this article!

Yeah I just saw a comment on my site with this link. I honestly didn't know that Wikipedia had a system like this before. Thanks for the link!
I still think though that they should do a better separation between the actual information and the story elements though.

Wow! That is so simplistic and minimal; it just works like you would imagine! Great idea, great work and great result.
I'd see this text field becoming more and more intelligent over time with other functions!

on: Steve Jobs left designer Jony Ive more power than anyone at Apple
It's interesting how the soul of Steve Jobs stays in Apple to control the company even after passing out. A company that functions through the power of will, creativity and beliefs.... it's different from all the corporate VP's and Executives we all see so organized at other companies!

That is very impressive. I used to do a lot of photorealistic modelling using mental ray or vray in 3ds max, andt he level of precision of this is quite frankly extraordinary. This could very be a game changer in the 3D industry.

on: The Invisible Side of Design
I think it serves a great purposes; clearing out some myths about design. There are too many people right now believing design is nothing more then beauty. It's about form and function which beauty follows when designed correctly - not the inverse.
A great presentation to keep, always useful!

Wow..... this is capital news! There is a flaw in our whole comprehension of physics and our basic understanding of everything that surrounds us. There might be faster that the fastest we have ever imagined and based our calculations on.
Yet, we see news like "Kardashian hubby's bad first impression" on the first page of sites like Yahoo "news", disappointing...

on: Show HN: Check out the 23" Android 'tablet' I made for $600
It's a great idea as a gimmick, but on the long run gravity will soon make our arms go down on top of our mouse and keyboards. Maybe if it is inclined then it would make more sense since it is a more natural position. The point is that it isn't very ergonomic and we all know that programming on a 90 degrees touchscreen isn't a super idea! Still, it all depends on the UI and the use! Great experiment!
