College degree is only worth for high income positions like surgeon, medical degree, nursing and some engineering field (chemical?). It's just not useful for middle class income like teaching etc. But good luck in trying to get an interview without any kind of diploma. They will think something is wrong you.

I love my Netflix subscription but absolutely hate their app. And to think that their software developers are among the highest paid in the industry! I fondly remember the old days, when they give is a long list of shows in a list from top to bottom. And you had an arrow to move your titles up and down. No fancy images and auto-play and atrocious design

Student loans program should continue for highly sought out program like medical, dentistry, computer science and others. But there are degree like physics, history and general education that doesn't have great employability. The university here will take all the money they can because at the end of the day this is just business for them. Students sometimes will take the easiest course because they can

WomanCanCode | 6 years ago | on: Why Child Care Is So Expensive

Spending time with kids can be very draining and exhausting. Not all the time that you are spending with them is quality time. Also, since parents don't need a degree or a whole lot of experience, this is an indication that childcare is only a minimum wage job unfortunately. Also, kids really like to spend time with their own peers and doing group activities. They don't care if you are not with them all the time

WomanCanCode | 6 years ago | on: Why Child Care Is So Expensive

Child care is expensive but I rather pay for someone to watch and look after my child at a daycare center then doing it 24 X7. Taking care of the house and children is just mindless, time consuming and exhausting, It doesn't give me the satisfaction that I get when working with something that requires a degree and talent.

WomanCanCode | 6 years ago | on: Ask HN: What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful for my family. And for not living in one of those mafia run country where you don't have any freedom of speech. I'm thankful not to have religion force on me. I'm thankful for having well stocked supermarkets so I can easily feed my family. I'm thankful that our police and sheriffs are not our enemy or used as a tool of suppression. I'm thankful that when our news organizations get disgusted with corruptions and wrong doing, they sometimes exposes the rich and powerful. I'm thankful for a fair judicial system where you are judged fairly. I'm thankful that good people exists in the world that still takes care of one another.

WomanCanCode | 6 years ago | on: Ask HN: How do I understand the results of my job search?

Yes, I was in the job market recently. It is absolutely devastating how terrible the software development hiring process is. There's almost no job in the world where you are humiliated so much and goes through such an agonizing process to proof yourself. I'm a mother of a small child, and don't have that much time to work on creative puzzles or study so many entry level computer science stuff that only a 'fresh graduate' would know.

WomanCanCode | 6 years ago | on: WeWork lays off 2,400 employees

Wework business model didn't make any sense. Why wouldn't market favors competing landlords for rental spaces since that will ultimately brings the best value for customers? Also, we definitely don't have a protection for employees working in a startup like companies. Since our political system currently favors the job creators, it's best to take them to court and so you can get your side of the story out.

WomanCanCode | 6 years ago | on: The benefits of a more asynchronous workplace

Management here doesn't like remote employees because they cant order them around like they do us. Also they don't like the fact that those employees don't stay in the office longer and are not bonding with other people here.
