Lol, I felt amazing the other day for being able to write an ajax request without looking it up after more than half a year of not coding in javascript.
I was already looking it up while testing it and was actually surprised when I saw that it was working.

Great, my first video was a group of cosplayers dancing to music from "THE IDOLM@STER".

on: Ask HN: What are your favorite YouTube channels to learn stuff?
Dogen.
Though mostly satirical rather than actually educational lessons, I've recently found it to be an amazing channel.
Some of his videos are almost poetic.
They give an insight into Japanese culture and quirks.
He also offers actual classes via Patreon.

That's true.
If I had an SV engineer salary I probably wouldn't think it too much.
But the cheapest MacBook Pro is a quarter of my yearly earnings, so right now I will choose what is cheaper to maintain.

Personally, I'll avoid any Apple products just because of the not uncommon horror stories I hear from customer service.

Yeah, but PC manufacturers still charge like 3x the price at least for SSDs (or any component actually) when choosing/making your builds at their websites.

on: The Day the Music Burned
Besides from being able to fiddle with the multitrack myself at home, whenever I have studio sessions for my band I always ask for the stems. I remember a couple years ago while starting work on an EP at a local studio, the guy just deleted some band's sessions to make space for ours.
He didn't want to give me the stems, but we never released that EP anyway. When/if we get to re-record it, I'll be sure that is clear from the start.
Don't know if I'd have this luxury at bigger studios, but I'm starting to record my own material anyway. Home recording and software gear are incredibly powerful tools.

But isn't it a platform for all ages? In which case, it would be illegal for YouTube to host porn, wouldn't it?

Have you been using it since its first release?
I find it surprising you hadn't heard about MS Office if you were already using Hancom.

on: All Chromebooks will also be Linux laptops going forward
Yeah, I actually bought a 2011 MBP like 2 years ago for 200 bucks. Use it as my main driver for my home music studio. Big projects load a bit slow but aside from that everything works fine.
Only thing I don't like is that there isn't really a cheap and decent way to have 2 external monitors on it AFAIK. Which is why I built a low budget Ryzen 2200g build which is perfect for audio and coding and now share my work between the two.

Yeah, there's almost zero connection between the games besides some background lore or easter eggs that are not important for the main story of each entry.

on: The Archetypal Resonance of Classic JRPGs
I just started playing Xenogears last Friday and do agree with the first few paragraphs of the article.
Stopped reading before halfway through when I realized it was getting spoilerish, though.
Playing this and Kingdom Hearts 3 back to back makes me realize that the charm some of the classics have is not pure nostalgia, but I still can't put my finger on it. Saying that, Persona 5 is a recent JRPG that I thoroughly enjoyed like those I played as a kid.

on: You Don't Need to Quit Your Job to Make
Yeah, I get at most 5 hrs/day of "me time", and I'm just a 20 minute drive from my office with heavy traffic. 5 minutes if the roads are clear.
Granted, I spend hours on HN, reading articles, sometimes even short books, and sneak a YT video every once in a while during work.
I get paid like crap for not so trivial work, so might as well use that time to strive for something better, lol.
