on: We haven't forgotten how to code – JS just needs to become a better language
Existence of micro-packages and the recent development saying that twitter as a host for micro-packages seems weird to me.

on: Open-source infrastructure is not venture-backable
Offering and maintaining an open source project is subjective whereas the classification is objectifying the overall philosophy.

on: Choosing between JavaScript and Swift for developing a simple iOS app
interesting read. yes native can't be beated especially if we conside loadtime, animations, api support. the only reason for me to go non native would be the cross platform compatibility. however the cost of compatibility is much less over the performance.

on: Hackpad source code
Hackpad is wonderful. We use it as a quick tool to discuss our ideas. It's more readable, gives a proper track of changes, and is effective. Having known that it has gone open source makes feel even better.
However, didn't Dropbox bought Hackpad earlier ?

on: Kids in India Are Sparking Urban Planning Changes by Mapping Slums
Inspiring.
First the idea of mapping slums and making stakeholders aware (even though they are already) whenever they sit to plan. Secondly the idea of using children who will foresee the future they want to live into.
"The value of child-led mapping, however, is not restricted to dreaming of a modern cricket pitch or other public utilities (although that's evidently important)."

SimpleDoc.com is available. Domain is no-doubt good, but will it sound good for your product ?

on: Why Debian returned to FFmpeg
This was what similar happened in our case as well. My fellow developer had convinced me that FFmpeg development was stopped libav was the successor. So, its time we need to study few more and determine what is better for a production, consumer centric application.

on: Ask HN: How do I name my web app?
What is the concept of the app ? We can try if some hints are provided.
Also, namestation does good job in helping to crowdsource the naming (domain names) problem.
Found an article suggesting some ideas behind choosing a good name.

SimulatingSnails
Gastropodasim would never be the name of my choice.

If Google can't backup the resources required for Code-Search, then who will ?
Just googled to see if any other code search service is available. It listed one more result other than the Google Code Search. Will koders.com remain alive. It will probably be a single. Lets hope, there will be someone backing up Koders.

on: Google+ as your blog (using G+ API)
I tried to do the same. When G+ made the first ever public release of the G+ API, My first thought was to create a nice blog out of the G+ public posts.
But, it didn't go well as I felt it wouldn't be better to compromise with the limitations.

Nice and innovative concept. But it works mainly in cases where there are frequent commits with few branches and some considerable number of developers working on the same project.

on: The second day Flash died
HTML 5 is beautiful and portable. Someone deciding to go with HTML5 must be appreciated. However, it doesn't mean that the world of Flash has to be left behind from right now. The support to HTML5 by the modern browsers, is a major concern till now.
Flash hasn't died yet, and wont die for few more years, until the browsers come up with everything HTML5 and everyone starts to use the latest updated browsers.

on: Try Python, Ruby, Lua, Scheme, QBasic, Forth ...
Wonderful,
Nice to see QBasic there. These days its easier to write for modern High Level languages, as they are easily installed and available everywhere. But the classic and beautiful languages are hard to find and even talked about.
Good and nostalgic memories of Programming with the Basic.
