on: Ask HN: Why can't we talk to each other here?
IMHO if someone hasn't added his contact information in their profile it would be safe to assume that they don't want to be contacted.

on: Ask HN: My side project is ramen-profitable. What do I do now?
I'm an affiliate marketer. I would recommend that you either partner with an expert, or do the following yourself (that's what I would do if I was hired to monetize you)
1. Germany is a lean poc. You made your point. Move on to the real market- u.s.
2. Hire a cheap designer from fiverr/similar service.
3. Apply to all major related affiliate programs (eg amazon, cj etc)
4. Start making money.
5. Use profits to:
5.1 improve design
5.2 improve conversion
5.3 improve user value using a/b testing with different programs.
5.4 retarget your visitors with all said programs.
If you wish to speak to me further about this I'm at aharonovich@gmail
Best of luck

on: Ask HN: Am I getting old?
IMHO it doesn't matter which is objectively better, which is more efficient.
If people would go ahead and use tablets then so should you, or you risk getting out of touch with your users and general society, much like my grandmother who has a hard time getting to the bank since she doesn't get e-banking and physical banks keep shutting down branches.

In Israel, first grade is for 6 year olds, getting out of kindergarten and into elementry school, so if you want grade to age conversion just add 6, ie 10th grade = 16 yo

True. Sadly, that's where I must incorporate.

AFAIK the extra taxes apply to your country of origin, not to Estonia.

Sadly I think that if a company supplied housing for temp employees the media would shout slavery.

on: Amazon Hires Homeless Workers, and Everyone Ends Up Disappointed
Totally. Leave it to socialists to attack someone who had actually tried to help the poor.
The worst thing about homelessness is said to be that some people fall into poverty over bad luck, and if they would only get a break they can pull out. So that's what amazon did - have them a brake.
Even with a seasonal job, I'm sure some of them pulled themselves out of poverty.

on: I thought all anti-vaxxers were idiots. Then I married one
But do you want to live with this person? If I hold an opinion that's so sub optimal and I hold it because of emotional reasons I'd like someone to shake me out of it, not pet me on the head and smile.

Feeding children in a specific way: costly and complicated.
Vaccinating your kids: just take them to where you're told. Free and easy. Even a monkey can do it.

Embarressingly enough- "the easy way", e- cigs, declaring it to myself four months ahead of time & lastly doing it on the first day of a two week vacation.

Well, they did publish some guidance that shows they would manage to drive down costs by 2017 to be marginally profitable.

on: SolarCity didn’t invent solar panel, but it invented something more important
The amazing part of it imo is that no matter the industry, a high tech company with the high tech standards of IT, customer service and efficiency will win,
as long as it completes against classic industrial/commercial companies

on: Ask HN: Would you buy Solar Bonds?
I agree, but counting issues (type 424B5) in Solarcity's SEC filings[1] I see >$150m in solar bonds, and that's excluding the $90 mio from SpaceX. I try to understand who is buying them and why, given all the good reasons you've just mentioned.
