Great news. Might finally be able to delete skype! I really have to wonder why it took them so long though.

on: Firing and being fired
Now you are just relabeling stuff like communication skills as culture fit. How you used 'diversity' to mean fitting into a culture is beyond me. 'We have a diverse culture, everyone better fit in, or else'!!!

Wait, so all we need to do is have all companies fire their employees and everyone on earth will then find happiness? So simple.

It can also nicely hide ageism, racism, sexism, conservatism, liberalism etc. Basically any reason to not like a person.

'Brown people' hospitals will just raise prices if they know patients have 'white people' funds. So this has the potential to make medical care inaccessible to those not having 'proper connections' to 'white people'.

So a woman who is not a feminist is actually a feminist.
Have fun with your redefinitions. Time for me to step out of this while I still can with my sanity.

Marissa Mayer is apparently famous for not being a feminist and for wearing Oscar De La Renta outfits in the midst of nerds. The subject of your defense disagrees with you. Pointless effort.

The dollar numbers being talked about in the article are kind of stunning, for a website that dropped off my radar more than a decade ago. Who are all these people with all that much money and where are they getting it from??

on: I will not do a tech interview
I'm pretty much at the same point of refusing to do any actual coding on an interview and for pretty much the same reasons. Really like the option of an offline code test followed by discussion of the solutions or a small contract. But it's pretty rare for companies to actually do this, since nearly everyone now follows Google's model.

Easy solution to that is to discuss the work/code in the interview.

If that's the only kind of people they hire, where the heck do these kind of interviewers come from?

Curious about the 'official' answer to the counter question. I'd have thought just having something triggered daily to clear out increments older than a day would be enough.

Didn't Google recently roll out what they called conversational search which did the pronoun resolution thing?
The example I recall they were able to answer correctly was 'Who's the president of the USA?' And then 'How tall is he?'

Skilled immigrants don't have much of a voter base, and the current set of US leaders don't seem to be very far sighted.
It is also pretty hard to even conceive of a good crisis that can force change.
So, yeah, pretty much a waste of time.

This seems to only explain a single faulty recharge, due to the customer using the service with a zero balance and triggering the charge attempt. Why would there be multiple recharge attempts? Was the customer using the service in that period multiple times triggering each of the recharge attempts or was it the code re-trying the transaction? If it was the code why would it restart the transaction from the top instead of just the part that failed - the balance update?

Don't startup advisors like Tim Ferris do basically the same thing? Advice/market/time for a small amount of equity? The only difference here seems to be that it's developer skills instead.
