on: Netflix Now The Largest Single Source of Internet Traffic In North America
Thinking about this from a technical point of view, would it make sense for Netflix (or even ISPs) to put in content-aware routers than can cache frequently requested bits?
Won't this help, to a certain extent, alleviate the congestion? Of course, the assumption here is that for a large enough population, you will have more than one person requesting the same content in a given time period.

on: Tens of thousands in austerity protest in Spain
I believe what people are protesting is that austerity measures, more often than not, are enforced upon services that benefit the middle to low income working class, rather than on the corporations that were complicit in creating the problem in the first place.
They are protesting for a more balanced approach.

If your name is even remotely "exotic" (and mine seems to be), good luck checking in online - apparently one way tickets trigger some alarm in the depths of DHS.

The upgrade's going - another 40 minutes or so.
Pro-tip for people with laptops that have switchable graphics - Go into your BIOS and set the default to "Discrete graphics" and not "Switchable". Otherwise Ubuntu will default to integrated and you'll miss out on all the fancy animations.

on: Joel Spolsky: Lunch
Interesting read, though as always, a little extreme. Eating lunch with co-workers 2-3 times a week is sufficient - sometimes you have a life outside of work too!
Also, I can vouch for the fact that cafeterias at Microsoft are NOT cheap - quite the opposite actually. You can get a better deal almost anywhere outside campus.
LOL @ "Excuse me, I’d love to introduce myself to you, but it’s very important that I update my cabbage."

Digital Signatures are only good for specifying identity, not authenticity. Perhaps this fact should be explained in colloquial English for users.
