The faults that people are attributing to blockchain are also applicable to cash, if you go the market and buy some magic beans from dodgy Dave with cash you won't be getting your money back. If you buy something from a reputable supplier with cash/blockchain then you would probably get a refund if you had some form of receipt.

I wonder if it's a generational thing but it seems to me that people nowadays have forgotten that you can host more than one site or database per server. Failing that shared hosting still offers amazing value if you don't need anything to weird e.g. someone like Bluehost or Hostgator offers unlimited* sites + databases for about $5/month

This is true, I run a small mailserver for myself, friends and family. I eventually gave up trying to get mail delivered to the major mail services and now just send postfix mail through Amazon Simple Email Service.

I wouldn't say it maximises happiness but it does serve to mitigate ghettoisation. In the UK they've done a good job of this, you'll often see council housing mixed into upmarket areas. Also all newly built developments are required by law to have 20% allocated as "affordable" and social housing.
