on: Twitter Support Useless Help
So true, I've worked for agencies and clients that spent advertising dollars but still could not get individualized support. The only company that I worked with that had a dedicated rep was an agency that managed Nissan, Infiniti, and many other global brands. They just don't have the bandwidth to do individual support, which is why they direct to the FAQs.

on: Ask HN: How to quit the job you hate?
Life is too short to do what you hate. Either follow your dream or you'll work for someone else to build theirs. You're in control.
As cliche as all of that sounds, it is totally true. I fired a bunch of toxic clients last year and don't have savings. Screw it.

on: Ask HN: What is your favorite tech prank?
My favorite is a fictional one from "The Office" television show in the US. The one where Jim created a program that changed Dwight's name to diapers every time Dwight tried to type his name on his computer! I've been waiting for the chance to do a similar prank

on: Ask HN: How do you identify a “dead-end” job during an interview?
In addition to the great responses already...
Do your research ahead of time on the company and people. Check out their social media, etc. Ask if this is a new position or are you replacing someone. If you're replacing someone, ask how long they were in the job. Ask about turnover.

I was saddened to hear this when I woke up this morning. I've listened to his music my entire life and can't remember a time without him. Cancer sucks!

on: Ask HN: What was your failure in 2015?
My failure was not following my dream sooner. Once I realized this I fired toxic clients and got rid of toxic people in my life. Now I am back to actively working on MY dream, and yes there is less money involved right now. However, I've simplified my life and really reeled in the spending and it's working. I'm getting a lot more interest in my new project and funding is just around the corner - I fully expect first seed funding in Q1 2016. In the end you have to do what makes you happy and the sooner you do it, the better your life will be.

on: Ask HN: What is your favorite Christmas fable?
Your #1 is the same as mine. I don't know any of the others except for The Gift of the Magi, that's a good one also. I'm a huge fan of The Year Without A Santa Claus and this guy:

on: Ask HN: Is 24 too late to start life?
You're ONLY 24. I went back to college at 26, got a BS and an MS and have changed paths many times. Get that "no reason to live" nonsense out of your head and get it together. You have many, many years ahead of you. Like others have said, doors are shut only to those that give up. I agree - get a job and practice coding and build up your portfolio.

on: Ask HN: The Struggles of Poverty and Trying to become a programmer from 0
Subscribe to newsletters from Udemy, StackSkills, Stone River Academy, and the BGR Store. They often have specials where you can get a whole bundle of online courses AND there are several that have a project that you complete and can add to your portfolio. They've had deals where you can pick up 10+ courses for $20. I also echo the recommendation to go through the MIT or Stanford courses. Check out edX for many of those. As someone else said, it really never has been better. I even attended a free CSS3 tricks class from Noble Desktop earlier in the week. It was a gift for being a subscriber to their newsletter. It was live and they created a GoToMeeting for me and the instructor took my questions and paid me plenty of attention. Great free two hours of my time!
Good luck, you CAN do it!
