architect's comments

architect | 4 years ago | on: Ask HN: Why are you pro/anti Bitcoin?

You don't understand Bitcoin because you are 1) white 2) male 3) middle aged 4) citicen of the United States. Take away any one of those and with each step you get a little bit closer to understanding why Crypto/Bitcoin is perhaps the most important invention in human history!

architect | 4 years ago | on: Ask HN: Why are you pro/anti Bitcoin?

> I’m fairly happy with PayPal, Transferwise & stripe. Congratulations! You're privileged so much that you don't recognize your own privilege before you. However, for those who aren't: The 'underlying value' of Bitcoin etc. is absolutely obvious!

architect | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: How can we destroy crypto currencies?

You cannot "destroy" crypto currencies. How do you destroy something that doesn't physically exist? However, if your goal is to reduce the use of cryptos then you might have some options: Probably the most effective approach would be to eliminate the incentive that lead to their use: The primary reason to use crypto currencies is to 'hedge' against violence. If a robber attacks me in the street and steals my wallet they will get the cash in it. But if my money is in crypto, even if they kill me, they will still end up empty handed! This reduces dramatically the RETURNS on being violent. So much so in fact, that Bitcoin alone rendered all weapons, knives, guns, ballistic missiles, etc. obsolete! That's why those who are attached nostalgically or financially to these antiquated systems are so much against cryptos. Bitcoin and crypto currencies provide an opportunity for peace and prosperity that we have probably never experienced in human history. So, to answer your question: In order to make cryptos "go away" you would have to find an alternative solution to make either violence, or violent, disgusting people disappear. And I haven't found any alternative solution yet. Do you know something?

As a sidenote: I find your use of 'we' and 'us' highly confusing. Who is 'we'?? And why did you not specify more precisely who you are talking about? Would love to see your reply! Greets :D

architect | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: What's the best resource to learn Elm from?

Elm is an absolutely amazing language. Congratulations for finding that job! As for learning: most books/resources are outdat d but thats not a problem: learn to use the compiler as your guide. You will find that you can change any code fearlessly by following the compilers guidance.

architect | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: Will BitCoins be cheap ever again?

They are cheap right now! Context: since the breakup of the “United” States is already ongoing soon us-dollar denominated debt will no longer be honored. Regions within the US will issue their own local currencies which will send the US federal reserve notes “fun bucks” into hyperinflation. I predict an easy 100,000,000$ per bitcoin. Furthermore, attempts of banning btc and cryptos will not only not stop them, it will do the opposite: People will be fleeing into cryptocurrencies even more! Remember I told you this so you can start regretting not buying already today! Be ahead of the curve :D

architect | 5 years ago | on: Knit – A Scripting Language

Looks great, but why would I prefer this over say Lua or Wren? Yes, the benchmarks look nice, but not extraordinary. What is the killer argument/advantage here? What is the use-case?

architect | 5 years ago | on: Ask HN: What could happen if you accidentally leak your company's source code?

Depends: Did the “project” include lots of JavaScript? If so, there is probably nothing to worry about, the company will be bankrupt/liquidated soon anyway.

If we are talking about actual real software, like for example a missile guidence system written in ada, then there is also nothing to worry about: for normal humans it is utterly worthless and the chinese already have a similar system

architect | 6 years ago | on: Ask HN: Unexpected consequences of the Sars-CoV-2 outbreak?

Just a short overview:

Explosion in Dark-web activity ------------------------------ Think service workers, gig workers, working poor etc. If you are woking 3 jobs to barely afford 2 bills you are already at the edge! Any disruption and a jump towards "alternative" income sources doesn't seen unreasonable any more. Especially for those who have dependents.

Worsening of virus spread ————————————- You read that right! Instead of preventing the spread, lockdowns will make it worse! Everything the government does is stupid! What will happen is that people will refuse to believe, or underestimate the real danger of the virus. In defiance of the rules they will go out in large numbers to protest, or to demonstrate how this is all just a hoax, accelerating possible spread.

Drop in productivity —————————- “Working from home” is complete fiction for most, especially for those who have elderly or young children to care about. What are these people smoking?!?!?

Child rape ---------- Yes, I'm sorry. This is an inevitable consequence of being trapped with your captors. No escape

Anti-China riots ---------------- Embassies, consular offices, even Chinese companies and even Chinese looking people could be subjected to violence. Many who lost everything will blame China and demand reparations!

Domestic abuse -------------- Already happening: https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/world-news/violence/domes...

Bank runs --------- With the economy coming to a halt. Many will find out their cash isn't THAT secure in a bank after all... Think Cyprus

Conspiracy theories ------------------- Already happening. Many will simply not even believe that the virus exists: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-52198946

Suicide ------- https://centralluzon.politics.com.ph/angeles-cop-stops-suici...

Mesh networking --------------- If rioting gets bad, governments will try to restrict/shut down online access. This will result in alternative communication styles such as mesh networking. See: Hong Kong

Starvation ---------- Dangerously low oil prices means lack of future investment into infrastructure which will lead to decreased future production which will, in turn, lead to skyrocketing oil prices. High oil -> high food -> riot/starvation. It's that simple!

(Hyper-) Inflation ------------------ Especially in developing countries. Local currencies are brought by tourists or to trade goods with foreign countries. If those currencies are no longer being purchased using dollars, a spiral into inflation is inevitable. But more importantly, giant defaults on usd based loans will mean that the usd will explode when priced in those currencies. Making imports unaffordable, local economies (especially for the poorest) will be destroyed

There is many more, but if I had to summarise the effects of the lockdown in just one single phrase: "A laser guided nuclear strike against the worlds poorest and most vulnerable"

architect | 6 years ago | on: Ask HN: What are your predictions for the next 50 years?

My predictions have a tendency to come true. Consider yourselves privileged to have received this information years in advance

Things that won't happen:

- There will NEVER be a 3rd "World War" with major countries rolling tanks across each others borders and millions dead. There will be lots of conflict though, but never a direct confrontation between major nations like u.s. china, Russia, etc

- There will also never be a nuclear attack on a live target. The worst that could ever happen would be a "test" deterrent on uninhabited land and even that is highly doubtful

- Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies will not be adopted by the mainstream on a large scale such that you could use it to buy groceries, pay rent, pay for everyday expenses, etc

- But they will also not disappear. Cryptocurrencies are here to stay

- There won't be any major youth cultural movement such as punks in the 70s, skinheads, hippies, ravers, etc. Big concerts and events will slowly become smaller/fizzle out. These movements of the past were driven by the children of factory workers and working classes. Deindustrialization is causing the decline of youth culture

- Cold fusion

- "Room temperature" superconductors

- Manned Moon landing. Not in 2024, 34, or in our lifetime (sorry)

- Manned Mars landing. This one will ESPECIALLY not happen! And even if it did, nobody is going to believe it

- "Storm Area 51" or any similar such event. Wont happen

- "Aliens" won't come

- Massive decline in national sports. People will not associate themselves with any particular sports team. For similar reasons which made youth music movements disappear, people will also lose interest in soccer, basketball, etc. FIFA, NBA, UEFA and others will be riddled with scandal after scandal

- +11bn. We have only so much planet to go around. Something will give...

Things that will happen:

- Costs of living will continue to rise, driven primarily by housing costs. Both, buying and renting, will continue to go up indefinitely making not just owning a home, but even sleeping inside a building with 4 solid walls increasingly unaffordable for a large majority of the population. First in western countries such as the u.s. and Europe, but also increasingly in places such as Asia and South America and many other places in the world

- As a consequence, cities will become thinly populated by a minority who can still afford to live in them and their servants, while large number of buildings, well maintained on the outside, will deteriorate on the inside.

- Empty luxury towers will be dotting cities all over the world with automatic light switches to make them appear occupied at night

- Van living will become BIG BUSINESS!!

- Major car manufacturers will be too stupid/bureaucratic to pick up (heh) on the opportunity

- People will adopt. Having a nicely fitted van/rv will be the new "middle class"

- If you hope that there will be another "burst" of the housing bubble, good luck. Things in history never happen twice. Maybe its time to get comfortable in your tent!

- Gym memberships will continue to go up

- The US dollar/Euro will continue to rise against most other currencies for quite some time. No hyperinflation any time soon

- Continued decline in fossil fuel production

- "Digital Nomad" places such as Bali, Chiang Mai, etc will become VERY popular. Even more so than they are today

- Many new places like that will arise all around the world. The famous Nomadlist is just an indication of what's to come

- Nation states will disappear. People will be divided into two major groups: Those who can adjust to a world in with the geography of your birth will no longer carry relevance to how you conduct your life. And those who will fail to adjust to a new narrative in which nationality no longer plays a role. This second group will be the Left Behinds. Many of them will become violent against the first and amongst each other. You can already see this happening with the (futile) rise of nationalism around the world. These people can't adopt, and will be wiped out

- Record cold winters

- Extreme heat wave summers

- Collapse of food production in many parts of the world at least during some periods with all the nasty consequences

- Continued decline in birth rates. World wide

- Splintering of the "United" States of America. Numerous groups fighting to claim the title, with others fighting to reject it

- Transition of the U.S and Europe from 1st world to 3rd world

- Save havens will emerge around the world who will accept refugees from the Declining West who were smart enough to foresee these developments in advance. The future won't be bad for those who can see what's coming

I also have some more predictions about the decline of the nations state. These are rather dark and involve things such as alliances between the deep state and street gangs. "Law enforcement" becoming criminals and turning against their own population etc. But that's enough for now, you get the picture...

architect | 8 years ago | on: Ask HN: Any tinnitus success stories?

Make sure your ears get rest!

If you are lucky this problem can be fixed, but unfortunately most of the "advise" you'll get is the opposite of what you should be doing. For example some "doctors" recommend to have some white noise, background music or other distractions playing while you are trying to fall asleep. Absolutely do NOT do this!

The following observation can be made when it comes to hearing damage/loss: - Constant low-level noise is much more damaging than short exposure to loud noises. Driving by a construction site is less bad than falling asleep with headphones playing. - Ears need recovery like every other body part, depriving them of recovery can lead to long term hearing problems. - As long as there is still some sensation the damage is not yet complete, as long as you still hear something there is a hope for recovery.

Order of damaging, most > least: Loud over long period > quiet over long period > loud in short burst > short, quiet noise

concert/construction > aircon/fan in bedroom > airplane flyby > phone ringing/insect flyby

If there is only one suggestion I can make, it would be to make sure the room you sleep in is absolutely dead silent!! Even if the ringing drives you crazy at night, make sure you can hear it! Do not cover it up!!!

Also try to avoid any kind of constant exposure to noise in your daily life - fans, cars, aircon etc. should all be avoided/switched off until your hearing has recovered sufficiently so that you don't notice the ringing any more. This can take months, your ears don't recover nearly as fast as an injury to your skin for example. Consider wearing earplugs even in you everyday life, when you are out in the street, at work, etc. It might look stupid but who cares? It's about your ears/sanity!!! Do whatever you can to protect them!! As a second option try taking vitaming B12 in high dosage together with vinpocetine (google: vinpocetine tinnitus). Attn: this will only work if you follow the advise above, make sure you live in a quite place, vinpocetine could make things even worse because your ears will be MORE sensitive!

And as always: Disclaimer: This is just a suggestion from personal experience, not medical advise, always consult a health professional if a medical condition persists!

architect | 8 years ago | on: Ask HN: What to do about the destabilizing effect of Bitcoin?

I think you mean STABILIZING effect? Since Bitcoin, as well as other cryptos, remove the influence of violence from human interactions, they have a stabilizing effect on every aspect of human interaction in which exchange of value is involved. The current increase in USD valuation is a consequence of this stabilizing effect. The high volatility is an echo of all past instability and violence and insanity that is now being "washed out" of our lives. I'm glad to see improvement happening at such a rapid pace, regardless of current Bitcoin price.

architect | 8 years ago | on: Ask HN: The Bitcoin adoption paradox

> The more the value continues to increase, the less people want to spend it.

Exactly the opposite. Bitcoin value has gone up, my purchasing power has increased. Now I can finally I can afford that silver Bugatti. Why not spend the money now so I can have the life that I want rather than taking all those nice digits into my grave?
