Unfortunately, this only works with Gmail. I will try to see if i can get it working for yahoo mail. Thanks for the constructive encouragement. I launched it around 60 days ago, but no pageviews after the first 3 weeks.

Thanks for the feedback. I had posted ShowHN couple of times, but it never came up in the front few pages! Do you have any suggestions, how i could have marketed it better, so you might have known it ?

Thanks a ton for your feedback. I understand that IMAP works fine for local backups. But doesnt that add another task to save the local email backup safely somewhere ? Would you have used this service, if i was providing an option to save it directly to dropbox ?

Also would you like a desktop app (windows/mac app) , which automatically saves the backup to your dropbox safely. That way your emails never get stored in any thirdpay servers, but only your local and the drobox!

Thanks once again for the service.

Thanks for your feedbac. Do you think you might have used this service, if it was providing email backup to other email service like fastmail, migadu etc ?

Thnaks for your feedback. Thinking about it, you were spot on. I wasnt sure it was a vitamin or a painkiller, hence i assumed it might be a painkiller for lot of people, where i was completely wrong. Thanks once again for your feedback.

backmail | 9 years ago | on: Show HN: Backmail – Automated backups for your gmail accounts

I created this after losing couple of custom domain gmail accounts (when the domains got expired ). This service should help keep an up-todate copy of gmail backups, incase account is locked or lost.

Would really appreciate some feedback, on whether the service is useful to you, and if not, why ?

Thanks, OP.

backmail | 9 years ago | on: Ask HN: Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, etc – how do you deploy your products?

I use cloud66 for my sideproject https://backmail.io . All the components are dockerized, and deployed/managed through cloud66 stack. For a smaller projects/teams, cloud66 provide an easier way to get everything working with single click ssl , easy scaling , and provide both vertical and horizontal scaling either using cloud vm's or your custom dedi machines. It also supports CI pipeline, to build docker images, though i use my own jenkins setup to build docker images.

Hi All ,

After reading across various comments in HN about google locking email accounts, and people setting up Gmvault for backing up gmail at home servers, i started working on this side project , which is ready to be Show HN'ed - Backmail - https://backmail.io . Backmail is a service, which helps you take a regular backup of your Gmail accounts (both personal and custom domain gmail accounts). Lot of exciting features are planned in future (like restore to another account with a single click , personal encryption key, 2FA etc), but would very much like to get your feedback on this MVP.

Thanks in Advance, OP

One of the best comment i had read regarding launching. Lots of people often under-estimate our past experiences here. Almost all of the s/w job teaches us to release a bug free, polished version . But to launch a side project, you need to overcome your urge to release a polished version, and launch a barely working version to get feedback and iterate. It is one of the major reason of mine to never release a side project till now !
