Thread.com (YC S12) | Software Engineer | London, UK | Full-time | Onsite

Our mission is to help people to feel happier and more self-confident by making it easy to dress well. We do this using a combination of human stylists and powerful machine learning algorithms to recommend each guy the perfect things just for them—in their size, budget, and style—which they can then buy in one place.

We're backed by a collection of the top investors from London and Silicon Valley as well as Y Combinator. After launching 4 years ago we're already doing $1M+ in monthly sales with over 500,000 men using the service in the UK.

We're looking for another talented, entrepreneurial software engineer to join us. Today we're a team of 6 full stack engineers with lots of startup experience (the founders have started and sold 2 companies before), and we're proud of the effort we've put into building and maintaining a strong engineering culture since the very first days of Thread. You'll be one of the first technical hires, getting to build and own huge parts of the product, and help us continue to shape our culture. (More on our engineering team here: https://www.thread.com/engineering)

Thread.com (YC S12) | Software Engineer (Data/Machine Learning)| London, UK | Full-time | Onsite

We're a startup that's using human stylists and machine learning algorithms to reinvent how shopping works for men (and someday women) who want to dress well but dislike shopping. In the process we're helping them to feel happier and more confident about themselves. We're backed by a collection of the top investors from London and Silicon Valley as well as Y Combinator.

You'd be joining a small, highly technical team with lots of startup experience (the founders have started and sold 2 companies before). We're lucky to have had a lot of success bringing together exceptional people in design, machine learning/AI and engineering, and we're now focussed on finding our first dedicated data engineer. You'll be working closely with Ed Snelson, Thread's Head of Applied Research and a world leader in data science, to build systems to improve our recommendations. Using data to help our users dress well is at the core of what we do; it's not a nice-to-have bolted onto the product. You'll be responsible for building predictive model training pipelines, assisting with model feature development, data warehousing, and working with the styling and product teams to ensure our clients receive the best experience possible.

What, all of them? You mean like all the motor users who break speed limits?

Thread.com (YC S12) - Software engineer who loves product (Python/Django)

London, England.

https://www.thread.com/jobs

We're a startup trying to reinvent retail so men can dress well without being subject to the horrors of the high street or having to trawl through millions of items online. We do this using a combination of powerful algorithms and human stylists.

You'd be joining a small, highly technical team with a ton of startup experience (the founders have started and sold 2 companies before). You'll be one of the first technical hires and get to build and own huge parts of the product and work on the core algorithms.

One of our ancillary goals is to build one of the best engineering cultures anywhere, and we'd love you to help us do that. We launched in October and user and revenue numbers are scaling extremely quickly. We're backed by a collection of the top investors from London and Silicon Valley as well as Y Combinator.

We're especially interested in people who are interested in founding their own startup one day. We view working at Thread as a founder bootcamp where you'll learn about all parts of starting and growing a startup.

Non-'standard' resumes are terrible for recruiters as they have to be parsed before they can be read properly or added to any tool they may be using.

By 'standard' I pretty much mean PDF.

There's something extremely magic about knowing who is calling you when you're cycling and therefore whether to stop or not to take the call.

Also, changing music or volume when on a bus without having to do that thing where you lift your bum to get your phone out of your pocket is, well, better than it sounds.

Thread.com - London, United Kingdom

Thread (https://www.thread.com) is looking for exceptional full-stack software engineers who love product.

We're reinventing retail in the UK (and soon, worldwide) so guys can dress well without being subjected to the horrors of high street shopping or having to trawl through millions of items online.

We do this by using a clever combination of algorithms and human stylists to give guys the perfect selection of things that will look amazing on them. Our goal is to create the new global default for how men buy clothes. We're live, have lots of customers who are obsessive about the product, and revenues are growing very quickly.

You won't merely be handed specs: you'll be in charge of taking ideas from the whiteboard all the way through to them being live, tracking the results, and iterating to make them better. For this reason, this role is only suitable for someone who likes being closely involved in product — what to build and how it will work, as much as the technical implementation itself.

You'll work everyday with an awesome technology stack consisting of Python, Django, Git, Debian, Redis, jQuery, Jenkins, Postgresql, Gunicorn and many other things.

If this seems like you, there's more information here: https://www.thread.com/jobs or email me at <ben at thread.com>

Companies like this still need to be made by talented people.

I know the founder of Calm, he's extremely laid back and great to work for.

You have to believe in the vision of a company to work there and this will be no different for Calm. It'll take the right kind of mentality to succeed at a place that puts reducing stress at the forefront of its mission.

Page down doesn't work as soon as you are less than a screen away from the bottom of the page.

You scroll to the bottom and automatically start reading from the top, but your next line is somewhere in the middle. A faint line where the top of the page previously was would help here.

bpp198 | 14 years ago | on: Ignite 100, The UK YC?

The size of the city isn't an issue. Jupiter is a pretty big planet but I wouldn't want to live there.

Newcastle is a weird choice, it's not the first place most people would choose to spend time in and it's miles away from what is becoming a decent tech ecosystem in East London. Why not do it there?
