Thanks for finding / posting. We've been using this framework in production at Aiden.ai for 6 months now. It's been a big productivity boost. Being able to strongly type your APIs is great ;). Really excited to open source this. Hope it can help others too!

cam_pj | 10 years ago | on: Show HN: A news aggregator service curated by the leading experts in tech, AI

Just a bit of background on this service...

As a preamble: I was really struggling to keep up with the news. There is just so much, and so much noise. It’s not easy to find out what articles are the most important ones and it’s time consuming.

I thought a simple and efficient approach would be to analyze what the leading experts themselves read and recommend. And Forereads was born :-).

Forereads generates specialised “news round-ups" to help people navigate the constant flow of stories published every day. The curation is done by the best experts on the premise that if several of them share the same article on social media, it is likely an important read. And Forereads does not just feature links, it adds context as well: what did these experts say when they shared a specific link? Can it help me understand the article better?

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I think there is a lot of frustration from some people with regards to PH and it’s understandable. But I don’t know if PH can be blamed for this. There has to be some kind of curation for something like this, and whether it’s a journalist (ex: TechCrunch), a community of people (PH), an editorial team (AppStore), as with all curation systems, there will always be people who feel it’s “unfair” (typically when their thing does not get selected).

I think what this fails to capture is that actually, it seems to me PH is a great proxy to the real world of startups. Yes it helps to be connected to influential people to be featured on PH. But the exact same thing is true for your startup in general. If you don’t know anybody, you’ll have a hard time getting noticed and finding investors. Your network and ability to connect to influential people can make or break your venture (I used to NOT think it was the case… I changed my mind based on my personal experience :-) ). I think that’s one of the very reasons Silicon Valley works much, much better than other places in the world: London, Paris, etc. They are a tightly connected community of makers, investors, journalists, influencers etc. It’s the whole echo-chamber thing and it’s absolutely fundamental.

Ah. You are exactly right... Thank you! I guess I got confused with the "link strength" terminology. I need to change this then.

Re. gravity: I was using this answer from mbostock to try and control the size of the graph.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9901565/charge-based-on-s...

But I have found it quite difficult to be honest, especially when you need to accommodate both desktop and mobile (I ended up using two sets of params).

Thanks. I think it's definitely amazing to see how "inter-connected" (for the lack of a better word) this community of investors (especially in Silicon Valley) is.

On your second point: thing is - could be because I am not a d3 expert - when I turn off gravity, I am struggling to keep nodes within the canvas. Maybe I am missing another setting?
