on: GUIs Considered Harmful (1992)
What OP fails to see is that GUIs are 80% of the reason why you see technology all around you. It’s the layer of simplification the vast majority of people need. PCs didn’t catch on until the GUIs were born. GUIs help architects design the same buildings OP lives in. 99% of the stuff in his home were designed and crafted tnx to a variety if GUIs in the process.

on: Ask HN: How do you deal with having “too many” hobbies?
One way is to list your hobbies and rate the frequency you’ve spentntime with each. You’ll quickly find you spend more time with one or two. Which then you could focus on.

on: Guidelines for Brutalist Web Design
I wish there was a brutalist browser that just turns every website into a brutalist designed page. It’d make me me suoer happy. Might even pay for it.

on: Odroid-Go Review: An Affordable DIY Portable Game Console
Pretty sweet. I wish this and the other 10 DIY/programmable mobile consoles would make it into mass market (toy?) stores. For years, this market has only been making circles in a tiny part of the geekosphere It’d be great to get it in the hands of everyone and then see what happens. Im sure you’ll get a surge of indie developers making and sharing games and kids in school showing off their latest creations.

on: Why nobody ever wins the car at the mall
I wonder how this can be legal. I’ve seen the “free vacation” scams inside malls and it’s really disturbing to see their practices

on: Ask HN: Pros and cons of working at a startup in 2018?
Con: with most startups (mostly the vc funded ones) it feels less like a startup and more like a corporate. The hacking ethos and mission driven teams have been replaced by overly nice offices, steve-jobs-wannabe-kid-ceos and mediocre team mates. I’ve lives both worlds and it seems there are few places left that are like the old days.
