on: Freelance vs. Full-time
Although going freelance sounds intriguing, I doubt that anyone like me with 4 kids and a wife to support would be brave enough to try it.

SQL Server -> ASP.Net web service -> Adobe Flex front end. This setup has been working quite nicely for me.

on: Ubuntu 9.04 released
The default theme for PCLOS Gnome tempted me to try it and as a result convert from Ubuntu. The distro first has to look nice to get people interested and then work well to keep them on it.

on: ASP.NET MVC 1.0 Released
I'm having a hard time getting excited about this. In 3 months MS will release version 1.1 and then version 2 coming 6 months after, each with version compatibility issues with the release before. Then a new flavor of the month will catch MS's attention and this will finally stabilize to the point where it can be implemented or identified as junk technology.

on: Rubber Duck Debugging
Funny, I'm quite often the 'rubber duck' for other members of my team. I was thinking of trying to find a way to get a cardboard cutout of myself that they could pull out when needed.

on: College vs Start-up - It's not about the job
If your mind is on your startup, partying, or you don't know what you want to do, I think you'll regret
not having the focus and direction you could have put toward college by waiting. Experiencing a couple of failed
startups or working a crappy job can really motivate you to put 100% into school. In my case, I became an airborne
paratrooper right out of HS, grew up (alot), got $$$ for college, then hit the ground running.

Agreed, I've been happily married 16 years + 4 kids and pretty much automatically do these things.

on: The Republican Party has an API
I like HN and the GOP. It’s good to see that there is some civility here to keep me from leaving.
