I realise this is new news, But any hope for students outside the US?

Really enjoying W7.RC at the moment, Would be great on my budget to be able to do it this way.

Funny how I only even think of Bing when I come across a reference on ycombinator, Then forget about it all over again.

His biggest issue is that 90% of people have Google as their homepage, I don't even think about it when it opens anymore, Its just always there as I need it.

The only issue I can see here is people not understanding the science of it, And only having it make them more anxious or induce panic at not being able to easily get to the exit.

That doesn't put fulfilling the need of such a project beyond the reach of any qualified coder to try and fill the gap himself.

It doesn't cost much for, a group of friends in college to start working on a project, or some colleagues meeting to throw ideas around, it costs nothing, and might be the beginning of such a dream.

It just takes an idea, and the will to take the risk.

When i look at conditional comments, I at least feel comfortable knowing that everything is plainly laid out, And looks cleanly formatted enough for me to be comfortable.

Slapping these one star hacks into my css everywhere would start to look very very messy.

We all understand that a sex offender is low on our list of people we care most about, But taking such a medieval, and profiteering approach like this app, Doesn't make us much better than the offenders.

The authorities are already aware of where these people are, The target audience here being only those who feel threatened, or scared, to know these people might live nearby, But that chance has always been there.

I feel this app can only serve to boost paranoia within the public mind.

That was pissing me off too, I was starting to lose faith in it giving any real cases.

If they jury truly had no choice in this case, Then I feel it stands to reason Jury's don't have enough power in our legal system, The whole idea of a jury is to bring the common citizen to the legal process, and hopefully some common sense to the law.

Not being able to save an injustly, if lawfully, accused man for the crime of not knowing all the paperwork a disgusting flaw in our system.

I would hope articles such as this bring the issue to life in the political arena.

crcoffey | 16 years ago | on: How To Explain Your Web 2.0 Job At The Pub

The main problem with Rentacoder and like websites, is that you need to find very small projects to work on, and bid some pathetic amount to get some ratings going before you can look at some real money, Or severly undercut yourself, and waste a heap of time for relatively no return.

crcoffey | 16 years ago | on: How To Explain Your Web 2.0 Job At The Pub

Given the diverse range of economical backgrounds coders come from for Rentacoder projects, Making being undercut quite a common occurrence, your looking at $15-20USD per hour on a run of the mill job, Providing you have decent enough ratings and offer a decent comment to show your competence and experience.

Personally I prefer to have no more than 3 projects happening at any one time, But its a risky job to have as your primary income, So you take what you get, when you get.

Its definately a great place for making some quick cash on the side. And I've always enjoyed being able to have a bash at new challenges I might not find elsewhere.

crcoffey | 16 years ago | on: Twitter Takes Step Toward Commercial Accounts

But thats my point. Why?

Twitters entire concept is just a head spin, As a casual bystander to the twit phase, I gather that 90% of the posts are either ego trips, basic daily occurrences, spam or marketing.

Why can't you meet your friends for coffee instead of twittering them about it from Starbucks.

P.S: Sent from my iphone.

crcoffey | 16 years ago | on: Dear User of My Open Source Project

No, not at all? Just because commercial software can and will be catered to the users specific needs, doesn't imply the user always wants to make any form of financial contribution to the desired result.

Nine out of ten times, if you want something, Users tend to google it to look for a share/free/OS version, before they fork out the cash, and if they are lucky enough to find one and get it running, It's always the coders fault that they can't quite make it work for their needs.
