I honestly don't understand what Uber is trying to accomplish with the integration of non-professional drivers into it's taxi platform.

It's devaluing their actual taxi service. By failing to address the serious safety concerns head on they're opening themselves up to litigation that they don't need and also removing trust in the overall brand. All for what, getting more drivers, you've got to ask, is it worth it?

The issue isn't license plate readers, it's data retention.

They certainly have a valid point about the need for limits on data retention however I feel they're going too far in demanding "public disclosure of the actual license plate data [(a week’s worth)]" just to highlight the issue.

For reference on how this is handled in other countries take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications_data_retenti...

It's great to see Netflix pushing for HTML 5 media encryption, it's one of the things the orignal spec for these elements lacked. Once it becomes standard across the browsers we'll hopefully see more media publishers come onboard supporting HTML 5.

This has been happening for a while now and often the result of poor configuration within the automated tools[1]. The real issue at the moment is that there is no incentive to improve how these tools operate. Right now the onus is on Google to confirm that the links provided in the takedown notices are accurate (not doing so risks censorship of valid links, whilst you can argue a counter claim notice can be filled by the "infringing" site, they have to first be made aware that a link has been removed before any action can be taken).

The amount of takedown requests Google receives is immense and they've recently taken steps to limit the daily intake of takedown requests[2]. It's a shame services can't turn around and charge for each link submitted. Until a legal judgement is made against these types of abuses, expect these automated systems to continue.

It's certainly an interesting approach to bookmarks, though I'm curious as to why the need for a complete backend when much of the functionality appears to implemented via the browser extension. Would it not have been simpler to link in with the existing bookmarking services, including the bookmarking tools built in browser?

Personally I use Pinboard along with this [1] chrome extension, adding bookmarks, tagging, and searching are a breeze.

You may want to switch that to Helvetica Neue (or just add it to the top of the font stack), the subtle difference in this case is that it has a wider support for different font weights whereas Helvetica jumps from 100 to 400 to 600.

That's a nice idea, I considered doing something similar a few years back. Instead of going to businesses had you considered going to the county councils directly and expanding your service in partnership with them. Many councils provide this data already, albeit in a less accessible form, this could be where your service comes in.

Your 'Search for a School' feature doesn't currently work however 'List nearby schools' seems fine. Maybe add a directory listing as an alternative to just searching.

If you're planning on pushing this into production, wordpress may not be the best backend to build upon.

I'd also recommend you check out Mark Pilgrim's 'Dive into Accessibility', it's a fantastic resource that I'm sure you'll find useful. http://diveintoaccessibility.org/

Wow, I thought the creator had given up on the project. Whilst I loved the promise Espresso 1 showed, I found it had too many issues to make me switch from Coda. I'm curious though, besides a rewrite of the program and integration of CSSEdit, what's actually new?

@brudgers Google typically releases new products to the market slowly whilst announcing them, look back at services like Gmail, that was initially invite only and in beta for a number of years.

I doubt this is actually Facebook's answer to Google+ most likely something they've had on the cards for a while. They've still got plenty of time whilst G+ is in it's infancy.

"Two of the media companies behind the online video service, Walt Disney Co. and News Corp., recently renewed licensing agreements to make Hulu more attractive for a sale." Providing the other networks will follow suite this looks to be a great opportunity, though I do wonder how it will play in with their services
