daveambrose | 7 years ago | on: Launch HN: Travelchime (YC W19) – Doc for travel planning with friends

I always thought the best travel planning app was an email that contained links of places to travel to. The email would go into a Word doc or Google Doc and then get printed to share amongst friends. This is a neat evolution of the same behavior (which is something I’ve always struggled w. evaluating companies in this space, esp. as each person travels very differently). Everyone uses the same plain text editor to plan.

Looking forward to trying this out and playing around w. the export feature for Maps.

This looks really cool (and I'm not a hardcore gamer) but avid Discord user for things like Zwift.

I'm curious: are there other use cases for Guilded outside of online gaming? For instance, on Zwift, you can join certain races and clubs, but it's really messy and happens primarily off their app (often in FB Groups). This seems like a better use case.

One of the biggest announces is lack of operability w. the previous Apple LED display. I've had to cycle through a few cable dongles at this point to then find out none connect to the LED display.

Instead, I ordered the Dell P2715Q 27" monitor and then purchased a DisplayPort to USC-C cable. It works perfectly and decently priced at $530.

You should write more about this topic, as you seem to have thought about a lot of vectors in this category for some time.

What's your contact details, BTW?

so, a few thoughts now that we have a room created for midtown NYC:

1. no push notifications? seems like a no brainer to have this when a new user enters the "room" (i'm calling these chat spaces that) and when a new message appears. suspect you'll get more re-engagement

2. why do I have a ribbon next to my username? see: https://twitter.com/daveambrose/status/395630523961577473

3. photos! would be good to share media in addition to just text. maybe for a v2

daveambrose | 13 years ago | on: Corporate Hackathons: The Fine Line Between Engaging and Exploiting

Good thoughts but generally I'd consider (1) who owns the IP for the winning idea or product and even those that don't win? If a company is sponsoring a hackathon with hopes of attracting disruptive ideas but owns the IP, there must be other upside - maybe significant monetary prizes or marketing exposure - to make it worth your weekend's time. (2) And the grave reality that most larger companies cannot execute the winning app without internal support, necessary team resources and budget...which may require lots of change.
