on: The cost of the “new way to message on instagram” (2020)
Right now Facebook is the only company that can make a client.. In a crypto native ecosystem you could have multiple competing clients. Instead of organizing labor and playing directly into the hands of the corps, users simply vote with their attention by choosing or building a more desirable client. Progress is made through innovation, technology, and community building. Organizing labor just isn't enough!!! You have to go further.

I'm sure I'll get lots of eye rolls and skepticism for saying this but: i feel like crypto projects and DAOs are in the very early stages of solving some of these problems by giving communities abilities to vote on upgrades or fork off if they don't agree with an implemented change. It's still very early and governance systems are still being experimented with, but I'm optimistic.

on: Robots could take place of pupils who cannot attend school in person
Also a robot is going to be far more expensive than something like a VR classroom. VR classrooms solves the socializing aspect. Also another benefit to a VR classroom would be potentially less bullying based on gender/race/weight if you can select whatever avatar you want

The extreme lengths the state will go thru to make sure everyone is attending school... what's wrong with online/virtual learning? Imagine if you could select from the very best rather than being limited to your own school district.

"Those who want more days off for such purposes as acquiring new skills and taking side jobs are not eligible for the program, he said."
Of course - why would a company want their employees to learn new skills on the side that could potentially lead to greater personal fulfillment -.-

on: “Great resignation” wave coming for companies
I think shorter work weeks would be more realistic/desirable than full FIRE. However, I suspect most successful FIRE people must develop a or two hobby that inevitably generates money and keeps them busy. Otherwise most will just get bored out of their mind after 1-2 years.

Actually just requested a 4 day work week for the same amount of money. Wish me luck! Seems reasonable to me tho, I can probably provide the same amount of value as if I worked 5 days a week - but who knows maybe they will just give me more work to do instead!

Part of why I like bitcoin is because the artifical digital scarcity should in theory reduce pressure from the housing market by attracting speculators to a much more liquid, low maintenance, and secure asset. Just anecdotally, I feel more inclined to invest my money into bitcoin than real estate. I wonder if there are others like me?

Yes that's basically how money is created. Money is then destroyed when the debt is repaid. Great video resource about money narrated by Ray Dalio:

States are also cartels but we just call the overlords by different names (Police, Mayor, Military, etc). Both commit obscene amounts of violence. Just look at the military history of United States for instance.

on: $365B wiped off cryptocurrency market after Tesla stops accepting Bitcoin
The dollar only has value because you are forced to pay the government with it to pay taxes or else you go to prison/get beat to death for protesting. The nice thing about crypto is the absence of a mafia threatening my life if I refuse to use it :)

It's not much different from the current fiat monetary regime. Those closest to the money spigot benefit the most... cryptocurrency opens it up to individuals rather than limiting it to governments.

I've never heard of other crypto currencies referred to as Bitcoin by anyone other than noobs. It's like calling the Mexican Peso a Dollar. The semantics are important - i.e. for doing something like currency conversions.

What's the alternative? only people deemed "essential" are allocated a GPU? how are you going to enforce that? by invading China and seizing the means of production?

That is just a horrible suggestion... Doesn't matter what rules or what level of enforcement you take to try to control prices/allocate resources... people will find a loophole to get around your authoritarian restrictions, and rightly so.
