on: Aldi, a brutally efficient grocery chain, is upending America's supermarkets
Got a friend who is overseeing manager of about 5-6 Aldi supermarkets in my area.
At the end of every day, every supermarket calls him with the daily results. He writes them down, takes a picture and sends that to his manager at the national HQ.
He just uses his phone and the occasional meeting to do business, there is no computer/laptop or system on his end.
Aldi is always portrayed as brutally efficient. So I was wondering what to read into this. Best I was able to come up with is that it's cheaper for them not to have an overseeing system to manage this.

on: Amazon to acquire video doorbell maker Ring
Interested how this plays into the best in class vision that Amazon pursues.
Does this acquisition allows them to take their Amazon Key service (Cloud Cam + service + tech) to the next level?

If that is a screenshot of the experiment you were running, you just wasted $70. None of those differences is statistically better than the other one.
If you got benefit out of being #2 on HN, good for you, just say so.

The interesting part is the information below the graph: most searches in Turkey, Venezuela, Colombia, Malaysia, Italy, Croatia, Indonesia. Africa nowhere to be seen though.

This movie clip feels like it could be featured in a dystopian sci-fi movie in which a big corporation has all the power. Just waiting for Deckard to walk by a billboard and see this playing.

on: Google Drive
The fact that they charge for Drive and not G+ doesn't imply that Drive is more important than G+. Looking at everything they have the last couple of months I would argue it is in fact the other way around. Although longer term and not direct revenue, G+ (and it's ad possibilities) is more valuable to them.

on: Amazon acquiring Kiva Systems for $775 million
I don't know the exact situation of Google's server warehouse design. But I presume that was developed in-house. Kiva already has other big customers that rely on it for their order fulfillment. Like said in this thread, making your competitors into customers is a smart move.

Extending the MBA line was the first move. It will take at least 2 more overhauls (not CPU upgrades) for the product lines to merge completely.
