Check out some of the experiments the users of Mirror are running. They have used Mirror to crowdfund their writing, raising almost 75 ETH so far, and are also selling NFTs to sustain their writing practices.

denisnazarov | 5 years ago | on: A Beginner's Guide to NFTs

Best explanation of NFTs and virtual goods I heard was from pmarca and bhorowitz on Clubhouse yesterday:

- The Honus Wagner baseball card is $0.50 of physical goods (cardboard/ink) and $3M of virtual goods

- A Basquiat painting is $100 of physical goods (paint and canvas) and $1M of virtual goods

- A rare Nike sneaker is $5 of physical goods (plastic/rubber) and $500 of virtual goods

NFTs are going to take this phenomenon to Internet scale.

We made the conceptual leap from physical gold to digital gold with Bitcoin. We will do the same for all other objects with cultural value with NFTs.

denisnazarov | 8 years ago | on: Colony: A platform for open organizations

For 1: The colony fixes the bug and creates a fork of the contract state (balances, etc) before the hack, so everyone has the same balance but there is no longer a bug. There should be consensus on using this fork going forward because everyone that has created value or invested is incentivized to do so.

denisnazarov | 8 years ago | on: Tendermint 0.10.2

> serves as a building block for Proof of Stake networks.

Can you elaborate on this, as there is almost no mention of PoS in the post?

From a high level, your response to my previous comment can be interpreted as the validators being "hardcoded" upfront, which would be very different decentralization properties from PoW systems.

What assumptions does Tendermint make in contrast to PoW systems, and what applications do you see it being most useful for?

denisnazarov | 8 years ago | on: Tendermint 0.10.2

How does Tendermint consensus compare to Nakamoto consensus? Are 2/3 of the nodes expected to be honest? How is validator membership established/enforced?

denisnazarov | 9 years ago | on: Show HN: Mediachain Attribution Engine

Good catch, this was done as an optimization for a few sources. We are working to backfill the originals in the next few days, as our goal is to preserve the original images in their pristine from. Should not affect the majority of the collection. For now you should be able to click to the source and find the original image there. Sorry for the inconvenience!

denisnazarov | 9 years ago | on: Show HN: Mediachain Attribution Engine

Hey HN!

I'm Denis, one of the people working on Mediachain! We're really excited to launch Mediachain Attribution Engine today!

We think it's the best image search engine for creators. You can find free, high quality images that you can share and re-use, with attribution automatically baked in.

Mediachain Attribution Engine makes it easy to find a great image that you can feel good about sharing or using in your blog post, presentation, website, etc.

You can upload any image from the web to find out who made it and where it came from. If Attribution Engine doesn’t know the creator, it’ll suggest visually similar images that are licensed for re-use and give credit to the author.

Attribution Engine is the first application powered by decentralized, open data in Mediachain and is built on top of the newly launched protocol architecture (v1.0).

Creators can sign up to register works and developers can use the data in their own apps, or contribute directly to Attribution Engine by following our quick start guide.

denisnazarov | 9 years ago | on: Mediachain enivisions a blockchain-based tool for identifying artists’ work

The goal of Mediachain isn't to enforce scarcity of media online, but to help creators benefit from the scale of sharing. Today, an image can easily go viral without viewers knowing who the author was. Mediachain makes sure that the creator can be present wherever the content goes, automatically.

Our view is that bits are easily reproduced and there is no way to stop that, and until now there's been no easy way for creators to benefit from that. Mediachain allows creators to connect directly to their audiences through the content itself. This way, gratitude can be exchanged through attribution, and in the future, even a payment directly through the content.
