To be fair, Since they have lived in quite a few locations you can easily become desensitized to the conditions of these so called "slaves". The conditions of them in the UAE are not verry different from Singapore. The law allows for transportation on the back of open trucks, mass casualty traffic incidents involving the poorest workers are common. For a maid if they want to change employees they need permission from their current employer and the current employer can choose instead to repatriate them, with 30 days to exit the country and no money or means to challenge any mistreatment the abused are simply expelled and forgotten about. You can imagine the power imbalance, sa cases, torture and malnutrition. To the outsider it looks well balanced but it is simply well segregated. Even public housing has a ratio per building causing minority races to be unable to sell their properties on a level market rate.

The local mouthpiece even has a topic for maid abuse https://www.channelnewsasia.com/topic/maid-abuse

It’s not just a single point of purchase, big co need to ensure your subcontractors subcontractors subcontractors enforce our policies and control around protection of data, we need to be able to Inspect that whenever our auditors feel like it. The complex issue with SaaS for big co is getting them to demonstrate a good business continuity plan and actually execute tests (your primary building was destroyed ... you own another building with connectivity , hardware just sitting around on ice ready to go right ? ) You have key man dependencies please asses that every 6 months and hire 35 people to cover that 1 KMD and show us your working on how you assess this. If your SaaS is so killer / think it’s a big competitive advantage big co will help you set all this up and guide you to an extent. But in this case this is your first big co and they will make sure your time is totally consumed by our mountain of lawyers , procurement officers, security , it , operations.... but at the same time finance want to check your books to make sure we are not your single customer and that you have a history of making money , check the key peoples backgrounds for any history of fiscal malaise , conflicts of interest blah blah blah.

The worst is when. We deal with the vendor negotiate a price the procurement people who have no idea about what it is their purchasing have a kpi on saving big co x % off every piece of paper that passes their desk so they go in at the last mile after pretty much everything is set and pull your pants down (don’t forget to leave fat for this )

And good luck.

It’s very controlled beyond prostitutes , helpers (maids) and labourers. They even specify which race and sex can do which job . Construction bangledesh (and some others) under 60. You must employ 1 local at 1400 a month to employ 7 Bangladeshi with no minimum wage and house them 24 to a room in what they call a dormitory , some might call a labour camp where COVID was out of control.

Helper , female under 50 https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/work-permit-for-fo... sourced from certain country’s only , At the professional and executive level it has been capped at about 200k and lowering for the last 10 years (out of about 6mil )

Custodian was already there , they have a strict pipeline but what I hear is that the environment where the hack took place was bypassing the normal organisational pipe governance and did not even have coverage of the custodian on the account. Basically shadow it. I still put a lot of blame on the way AWS Iam makes it incredibly hard to stop the use of the credentials outside the vpc in the event they are stolen , for example source ip restrictions do not work if the bucked it using kms encryption because kms will decrypt on users behalf appearing to come from a different ip than the user . The called via is a farce that only work with about 4 services out of hundreds and the meta data v2 with its ip level TTL is a marketing gimmick

This reminded me to cancel my cable subscription, I only had it for the EPL and F1 and they did not make any concessions for the fact they are not playing live sports. I also put my mobile plan to cheapest possible because where I am (Singapore) I can't really leave my place for past 2 months
