on: Why Sitting May Be Bad for Your Brain
I wonder how this affects people who meditate regularly for few hours every day. They mostly sit cross legged or in lotus pose, but they do sit for a significant amount of time.

on: Aadhaar: Ushering in a Commercialized Era of Surveillance in India
Indian left wing has been calling the current ruling party and the government "Fascist"[1] for a while now. So there is quite a bit of fear mongering regarding Adhar, as left suspects that govt. will eventually use this to crack down on the dissenting voices. But for those who don't share that opinion, this is part that needs attention,
"The guidelines could have come earlier, and given large data leaks in the past may also be redundant. Nevertheless, it is reassuring to see practices for keeping information safe and the idea of positive informed consent being reinforced for government departments."ie, Though delayed, corrective measures are being taken.

I find it strange that, nobody has mentioned MQTT so far in this discussion. Isn't MQTT also a 'competitor' for XMPP, besides JSON-over-Websockets? especially on mobile devices ?

I wonder how practising Hindus and Buddhists will scale in this kind of a study. I am a practicing Hindu. My family/clan and say some 20-30% of whole population of my country are lacto-vegetarians(no eggs and meat, but will consume milk) for generations. I hope the researcher does a study among that ethnic group too. That will fix this debate for good.

Levelling up against Costco and Walmart in really innovative way. Amazon had to have a "USP" other than "we will deliver stuff to your door steps". Now not only "you save the trip to the store, but also you get convenience of making your shopping list anytime, anywhere". Smart strategy that would be hard for traditional competitors like Wal-Mart to copy.

The line in quotes is from the article. I was trying to counter it by citing TCS CEOs were not IITians.
I should have made it more explicit.

"If Satya Nadella had remained in India,he would probably be working as a coder in Infosys or TCS. Earning a high salary no doubt, but an unlikely candidate for CEO"
TCS(Tata Consultancy Services) CEOs, current or past, were not from IITs.

on: Nadella as Microsoft CEO: A slap in the face for Indian system
It is interesting that, Nadella is from Manipal Institute and not a product of "elite" IIT/IIM system. It is rare to see an Indian born techie, doing well abroad, not from the IIT/IIM system.

I grew up in India. And I agree with you here.
Being said that, I doubt how "feeling less guilty" make any difference, if they are going to do it anyway.

I have to agree with you being an immigrant. If they have conducted the same study in different cultures, they would have found contradictory results. For example, the over emphasis given to the more experienced and older people may make senior staff over access their ability in a professional setting.

Did I say corruption is the only issue? no.But corruption is the main issue. Competence won't get any better if corruption does't come down to "acceptable" level.
The communist government and associated land reforms have a lot more do with Kerala's successes than "reduced tolerance for corruption
And why did that happen? Because the land reforms were executed well. And it was executed well because system was not corrupt.People generally don't think that "let us dupe the system and get away with that".

on: Arvind Kejriwal
Do you think hundreds of millions of malnourished children would suddenly have food in their mouths?
Yes.Because part of the problem is that the distribution system is broken. It is broken because the system is inefficient. It is inefficient 'cause it is corrupt. If you reduce to a level where it is not an acceptable thing for the society,it would be far easier to deal with all other problems you talked about.
Don't confuse the effects of corruption and incompetence
No.There are states like kerala where all of the above problems have been solved in past.(ie Malnutrition, food security, education etc) They pretty much have the same education system and political system like rest of India, just that society is less tolerant to mass corruption and mismanagement. So issue number one is corruption and the value system that tolerates it.

Mr. Kejriwal is by no means a "common man".He has a history in politics, though not in electoral politics. But I do agree that this election reminds scenes from some movies like "Nayak" and "Yuva".
Overall a nice Article though :)

I think in images and then try to verbalize it when I need to express it.Mostly when I am doing coding or math, the solution most of the time strikes me as an image then I go about implementing it.
I think most of us think more in images than words.
