But I certainly heard it the other way first. That's probably another good example of meaning being lost in text compared to spoken word.

I agree with your statements here, but still, I think it's flawed thinking. Just because Google is big doesn't mean one person (or a small group) can't come up with innovations and compete.
Even if Gabriel says DuckDuckGo is not a competitor to Google, or if it doesn't have a sustainable business model, I applaud his efforts. I too enjoy the bang syntax, and that's something I wouldn't get using other search engines (even if DDG isn't classified as such).

His "dashboard" is cool in a way, but also sad. Makes me think of some rumors (perhaps well-founded or even true) that Sesame Street reduced the attention span of children because of the constant switching of scenes and characters and etc.

I liked that submission because I could easily identify with most of the behaviors in that list. I too often have the urge to correct someone over something arguably unimportant. It's so strange.

While I appreciate the commenters who do it, I think it's kind of silly to have to comment a "clickable link" for HN submissions that need it. Why not just change that?

There will be several times when your roommate(s) gets on your nerves, and I found it best to step back, take a breath, look at specifically is bothering you, and confront your roommate about it calmly. Ask him to do the same if you start to bother him somehow. Patience and good communication are key to maintaining order in your living space. Do this right and dorm/apartment life will be a blast.
On the flip side, your first year can be quite hellish if you've got a roommate that is unbearable. If peaceful negotiations are not working, definitely consider moving out; don't just live in misery.
I wonder... for all the different articles on NYTimes, and the different configurations of words across paragraphs, is this unique enough such that you won't get duplicate paragraph IDs in any given article?
