on: Hyprland Crash Course
This is mostly correct, but I think 5 minutes is understating the effort for some changes. I've had a few head scratching moments where I wasn't sure what to do to get an equivalent configuration. That being said, it is still reasonable to do.

on: Governor signs bills creating EV charging station network across Wisconsin
We managed to blanket it with cars and roads despite them being unaffordable in the long term. We can do it just fine.

If anything is socialist about this scenario it would be the roads. You want other people to fund the lifestyle that you prefer and are fully willing to spend their money, time, and effort.

This isn't an uncommon thought in the slightest. I hear this used as an argument frequently. Maybe some of you need a booklet with things that you can and cannot do but many of us do not and it isn't because of a religion.

on: People hate the idea of car-free cities until they live in one
That's still a completely different reality than the US. Many people in my neighborhood have more than 1 vehicle per person. That's a far cry from less than half of families having a single car.

I still think it has to be more efficient to eat out and let economies of scale take over than for each of us to cook. I even say this as an avid home cook. It's incredible that in the US it costs orders of magnitudes more to have an efficient machine of humans and logistics produce the food

This is counter to the point that was made regarding fat. The almonds have a higher ratio of fat to other macros.

on: I Improved My Rust Compile Times
This sounds overblown to me, TBH. IME you hardly need to agonize over type structure for common day to day code. The benefits of the type system are highly advantageous to refactoring without causing breakage, so I become more nimble in getting towards the proper structure. This is precisely what allows me to iterate more quickly and is a benefit.

on: Unpowered cargo gliders on tow ropes promise 65% cheaper air freight
That sounds lovely. Of course, you'll never achieve that with automobiles, so we'll be needing the trains to make it possible. No tires and significantly less chances of a collision that will kill you.

on: Uber to pay $272M to Australian taxi operators
That's wishful thinking but not true. I've directly called a legitimate taxi company before and been scammed and had to pay over triple the price. This was after specifically discussing the flat cost that this particular trip had. Due to circumstances I'm not going to discuss here I had no choice but to pay it, but if I'd been in a different situation I would have left.

That's very interesting, because as someone familiar with nix my take was that this was information I considered to be aimed at people who weren't familiar.

If there's an easily discoverable code to get free stuff, yes it should be free forever. That's not theft but rather stupidity.

Has 1password stepped up their game recently? They were significantly worse every time I've tried them. They've lost me and I'm not willing to try again anytime soon, but I do wonder.

Upon first look this doesn't appear to serve the same purpose as syncthing. It sends files individually instead of keeping a folder synced.

I don't want to live in a society that caters to the most selfish and ignorant among us. People get sick, but we don't have to needlessly do so. If you're not worried about it that doesn't mean you should have the right to bring it to other people.
