on: Hundred Rabbits is a small collective exploring the failability of modern tech
This is a overgeneralization and a sad belief to hold on to. There are many many communities which share resources where things do not fall into tragedy of the commons. There are communal houses, coliving spaces, makerspaces, people co buying second homes, tool libraries, heck! libraries themselves. There is a whole advertising culture that is trying to reinforce the "we couldn't possibly share things" narrative, I urge you to go out and experience alternatives!

on: Daddy isn’t coming back
I used to work at a hotline, and OF COURSE the 'quality' of the volunteer varied. We were not trained to avoid anything, we were there to stay on the line as long as people wanted, and talk about whatever people needed unless there were more calls than we could handle. Many people called who were in crisis, rather than overtly suicidal, we were there for them.

on: Launch HN: Py (YC S17) – Learn to Code on the Go
I was skeptical.. but I really like it! The UI looks very pleasant, and there's an addictive rhythm that keeps you going. As a programmer the beginner courses get tedious for me, I dont need the concept of conditionals explained to me again, but if you had an expert level intro to a language I didnt know- I would definitely want to learn the syntax and idiosyncracies of a new language this way. It feels really painless to learn things in this style.
