Maybe they arent enamored with personalized ads. What if its a bit of a white wash or generalized term. What if they knew enough about peoples personality and thoughts that they could guide that person to want their product. Like were in the beginning of a path that leads to someone being able to tell us how to think and where to go. All very distopian, but I agree I feel like we're quickly moving past personalized ads.

And every other company. Go live in a cave because thats where all companies are going and no one is slowing the process down. This consumer choice gambit very well be a false statement in the future.

Agh, damn. Just removed Awesome Screenshot due to your comment and I liked it as an extension too. Not enough to leak information to third parties though..

absolutely, gnome boots up very quickly but the churn that happens right after boot slows opening applications to a crawl.

on: Experiment in booting Linux fast
I came here to post something like this as well. I'm less concerned with bootup time and more concerned with how much time it takes to get to actually using the system. its still in the 5~10 minute range for me.

I'm unsure that it requires the internet, just a router and AP to direct connect the two devices together. Furthermore, if the the furnace is the root of the CO emission it would be a boon to have the nest thermometer ask for forgiveness vs ask for permission to save you from death.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Being able to choose your own adventure has been captivating even without the visuals. Zork was captivating using ASCII, this even more so.

on: Calibre version 1.0 released
I have liked Calibre when I have used it a few times, but the GUI is pretty slow compared to most software these days. I attributed it to using python, but maybe thats not the case? has anyone else found some speed hacks that make it easier to use? (or maybe its time for me to upgrade the machine it resides on?)

its a passive system where the camera sensor collects image data before the picture is taken and analyzes the image, then activates the focus motor to adjust the focus. No emitter required.

+1 for this. I have been using keepassX for at least 5 years now and I can access the file through dropbox on my phone, laptop, and desktop machine without issue and the 2FA is an extra bonus on the full computers.
