Hello, hackers!

One of the key issues founders are struggling with is co-founder conflict. According to Noam Wasserman, more than 65% of startups fail because of this problem.

Over the past year, my 3 friends and I worked on the Co-founder’s Daily Journal. It is a daily journal where for just 5 minutes a day, co-founders can come together (physically or online), answer a few simple questions, and work on improving their relationship.

Today, we’re launching on Product Hunt and would love for you to head over there and share your love by upvoting our product, or if you’re facing this problem yourself, go ahead and purchase the journal for yourself and your co-founder(s). It’s never too late to start a conversation, and figure out what’s wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks for the feedback!

> "Loving the UI." <3

> "Home should say what is everchat, features, differentiating factors." Will add this to our backlog. We're getting this request a lot!

> "Peek into "popular channels" without login." Same as the above

> "Sign up email comes from a random firebase domain, not the same as the welcome." Yeah we know about this, we requested a custom domain but Google is taking its time :D

> "Haven't managed to post a comment, getting 500 on a `s?l=dataLayer` resource (chrome macOS)." Don't really know what's going on here, but will look into it.

> "Ability to enable notifications (email and/or html5) on specific channels." Great idea!!!

> "A monthly or so email about new features, stats, or changes would be nice. I don't think I'd use it right now but if it managed to get traction I'd be up for it." Monthly email update is setup :)

> "Maybe: Invite only rooms? Discord style." Private channels that are accessible only for people with a token are on our roadmap. :)

> "How will you reconcile privacy with the "Basic human right of Internet freedom" and takedown requests from authoritarian governments against dissidents who break local speech laws?"

Hopefully we can decentralize the platform in the way that we will be able to back-track history (once we open-source on GitHub).

> "How will you handle NSFW posts?"

Just like on Reddit, there will be a Settings toggle to show/hide them.

Thanks for the feedback!

You brought up very good points and yes, we are concerned with the same problem you're bringin up. In the future, we want communities to self-police themselves, but for that, people on Everchat need adequate tools, which we haven't even start building yet.

The issue of non-responsivity became apparent when someone (2 hours into launch) tried to crash the site with the unlimited title length :D This should already be hotfixed, so the waiting times shouldn't be that long! :)

What I think by that is that the core is messages, karma system, creating public communities. The different features on top are stuff like voice messages, file sharing, making polls, creating private communities with encryption that are hugely scalable.

And yes, it's kind of a clash of reddit and Slack if you will.

Feel free to ask more questions :)

Very good point! In fact, the public channels won't be encrypted. Only the private ones, but in a hybrid implementation of server-side fan out and end-to-end encryption. The reason to do this is scalability. With this hybrid approach, we can make encryption work even for channels with a lot of members. It wouldn't be possible to make it work with end-to-end only. What do you think about this? Thank you for the suggestions! We'll definitely look into it :)

Hey, hackers!

I and my friend are working on a side project, that’s similar to reddit in the core but will have different features built on top. It’s focused around creating like-minded communities. Everchat (https://everch.at) will be a place where you can send encrypted text and voice messages, images, videos, files, and more, free from any regulation.

Our mission is to secure, protect, and empower the Internet freedom, and the freedom of speech in general, and our vision is to build the most secure group messaging out there, but the time (and hopefully our future community) will tell.

Right now, you can support us with subscribing to our Product Hunt Ship page (https://producthunt.com/upcoming/everchat) if you have a Product Hunt account, or reserve your user ID directly at Everchat (https://everch.at).

All feedback is welcome, and I’m hoping to open up some Internet freedom- or content regulation-related discussion within the thread. :)
