I will point out that finding and root causing a bug (and perhaps writing a test) is THE contribution. Very often fixing the bug, once all unknowns have been resolved, is trivial.

Many times a one line fix takes days off debugging and analysis. Seems like this was the case here, since the original bug was open for 6 years.

I haven't been looking, but i was under the impression that you could have some ... Last year, not in the recent months?

Maybe you are right, then the math changes, but only slightly?

If you want to purchase a home, you probably need to replace 2k with 4k-5k/month for a mortgage on a home (30 year loan) + ~1k/month in property taxes.

Add two kids, each 2k/mo/child in daycare.

That's 7k/month extra.

Still leaves you a nice chunk though.

We have a computer (laptop) from 2011 - Lenovo w520, with 4 core i7 (second gen) and 16GB ram, full hd IPS screen, and factory SSD, and dedicated Nvidia Quadro with 2GB graphic ram. Boy this computer still rocks, and the battery still lasts 2-3 hours. I think there weren't that many advances in raw speed. The only thing it is missing is HEVC hardware decoding (i don't remember if it has h.264, possibly not)

What I'm trying to say: 10 years is not that much for computers these day?
