It is a broad question. To specify, we'd need to know which jobs you'd be applying for.

From your description, you could almost surely land an intern or junior developer position. Those of course would (hopefully) give you the work experience to move up from there.

The only way to really know is to start putting yourself out there and getting feedback from potential employers. There are just too many variables between companies for there to be an external gauge for "good enough".

Great read, but I believe movie quote is from Bill Dukes, Menace II Society (perhaps Denzel said it too, but Bill made it famous ;) ).

I'm pretty impressed with the device but I was expecting a LOT more when they started talking about sports. Especially considering that live sports is one of the last bastions of television. Fantasy football and "taunting friends on Skype" is not what I consider an ultimate experience.

> ...This is interesting point. It is coming from "everyhour". What difficulties you think we could face?

IANAL but... If it's coming from "every hour" then go with that. You reference the Evernote inspiration in your description above, the tagline on the site is "Evernote for time", etc. Saying 'it's evernote for time' is great for elevator pitches, less so for product wording. But because the product is called "Everhour", I'd either a) start looking for a new name or b) pretend (at least in public) that I never even heard of Evernote. If not, at best you'd be labeled as a copycat, at worst, face some legal issues for encroaching on their trademark[1].

I say drop all of the 'Ever/Evernote' references/nomenclature asap, unless this is just a side project or experiment with no plans to become a business.

Invite page needs more description, I can't really tell exactly what it's supposed to do (I'm not familiar enough with Evernote to make a connection

I also recommend using http://betali.st/ to get some early interest.

As a dev: Not sure why the blog sidebar needs to be on every page, especially Pricing. Doesn't come off as "pro" and at first made fear that the entire app may have been built upon Wordpress (I see it's not though).

As a user: Love it, need it and will be trying it out myself!

For context:

> FounderDating asked me to identify ten that I would vouch for. I didn’t have to do it but I thought oh well, I guess I’ll do it and see what happens. So all I did was click their photos. Nothing more.

Can't speak to the rest of the flow but clicking photos indeed sounds like opting in.

flexxaeon | 13 years ago | on: How Social Networks Drive Black Unemployment

Notwithstanding my feeling of being link baited by the term "social networks", the points in this article are what I've come to assume & expect. Even if you take out the race angle, most would agree that good professional network is all but necessary to climb the ladder of success. Factor race back in, and it's easy to see how under representation or even discrimination play their part.

flexxaeon | 13 years ago | on: How a player with a “useless” item almost took down EVE Online’s entire economy

Similar used to (and I assume still does) happen fairly often in FFXI as well, thanks to the Auction House system, where someone "corners" the market for a short period by buying up the entire stock and then placing them back, incrementally marking up the price. But by driving up the price, it'd attract more sellers and good ol' supply & demand would correct the price back down.

flexxaeon | 13 years ago | on: How to stop recruiters posing as applicants

I don't think they pose as applicants as much as they use the contact method (usually email) to solicit their services, even sometimes ignoring when the hiring company specifically says "please no recruiters." If they are posing, it would be pretty easy as well, as they could send in resumes & CV's of job seekers they represent.

Recruiters also pose as companies posting 'jobs', and from what I've seen when looking for gigs it's likely they solicit in the other direction as well. How low they sink, who knows.

flexxaeon | 13 years ago | on: People laugh when i say,"i dont know how it's going to make money"

you should definitely 'bother' and start working on it. start focusing on ideas for monetization while you build it. if you can't come up with an idea, perhaps a future partner, mentor, or investor can help you flush out the idea. key is to find and deploy your monetization plan asap, as it's becoming a much more important metric every day.

flexxaeon | 13 years ago | on: Ask HN: what creative methods do you use to solve programming problems?

I'm definitely in the taking a walk bunch. Seems like most of my frustrating problems are just a case of looking too hard. I'll get up and (try to) do something completely unrelated like turn on the TV or sit outside, then suddenly the answer comes to me.

When I run into an issue during some late night ooding, the solution is always sleep. Next morning, the answer will come to me a little after I wake up (when the mind is most clear).
