I grew up in the county west of Soul City. It didn't go bankrupt all on it's own. The adjacent townships and cities are pits of disrepair and hardship (Warrenton and Henderson). The only industrial type (large scale employment business centers) are two or three counties away from Soul City. So moving away from there starts to become a lucrative prospect the longer you stay.

It takes a special kind of project member persona to handhold a newcomer from the "asking questions phase" of wanting to be a programmer, to the "seeking answers for themselves" stage of being a programmer and if you're lucky you'll have a member of your project that excels at handholding a new user all the way up to the "gives answers to newcomers" stage, thus completing the unicorn life cycle. But these are rare and in only one instance have I actually meet such a member of a project.

Firearm technology is incredibly simple. I've seen firearms made from pipe bought at a hardware store and parts from toy cars. The point is, it would be incredibly easy to override "any" technological advancement in firearms that renders them inoperable. If we want a safer society, we need to make a better society. Not more control of the people, but more people in control. In the end, this is a brain dead idea.

It's not for everyone, if only "to learn" is your goal then it's the appropriate path. I know, I've walked down it too. I'm not famous, or rich, but I am fulfilled more than... than words can describe. "Complete" fits nicely I think.
