I would say that the online community has always been superficial

It feels good but you are still alone

It's never been a good thing, it's been a time sync and it's why birth rates are down, depression is up, loneliness is rampant, and everyone is addicted to narcissism machines

If I could unmake the Internet I would in a second, without hesitation.

The lack of local community as everyone moves to a global gray sameness is the grossest thing to happen to this world.

Using it as a crutch to fool yourself into what you think is normal is not healthy and it's not a solution to real problems.

Omegle disappearing is neither surprising nor sad, and it's nothing personal against them specifically.

I expect to get down voted to oblivion because no one likes to hear harsh truths, but the internet has been a net negative for us all

I think your concept of productivity is faulty.

The point being made is that your increased speed to market comes at a cost

Yes there are many applications that probably just don't need to exist but you can make a living cranking out

Not everyone should do any one thing all the time. But we have to be careful not to always discard hard work in favor of speed and convenience.

Jon Blow and Casey Muratori are reminding people to take responsibility for what we're doing. Learn how things work and be ambitious.

I literally said I'm not in support of my own dumb idea

I know things are more complicated

You, however, need a mirror. Everything you just said is a wonderful display of willful ignorance. Your head in the sand does not protect you from the world

Big Tech, in 2023, is effectively a governmental body. I mean all 7 (or whatever) of the largest companies. They operate in a wildly anti-competitive and anti-free-market way, rivaling even the Railroad tycoons of a bygone era.

I'm not anti-corporation, but there needs to be some effort put into correcting this. It's not going to fix itself.

Our country would be a lot better off with a lot of small businesses rather than a few gigantic businesses.

I don't expect anything to improve at all, TBH

I would like to see the government break up a lot of these mega corporations, but it's not a great solution

Our global economy just means overseas companies will buy them, or they will move offshore and compete where we can enforce anything

I don't have any answers, but I think we can all recognize something's not working here

Rome was the global superpower all the way until they weren't

Edit: However, I will concede that I think nuclear annihilation is more likely. So in that case you would be correct by accident

That Jon Blow video is one I always tell people to watch

That video and Casey Muratori's "The Thirty Million Line Problem" video

Similar theme, and really a call to action.

We, as an industry, need to fight entropy and chaos. Not through regulation or authoritarianism, just every one of us needs to take the responsibility and try to make things better
