that would make it harder to find a new job, right? tradeoffs to consider

Weird, I don't even see the Sidewalk option in Account Settings
EDIT: looks like my Echo is too old to be compatible. Lucky I guess!

Granted that the severance will cover it, but COBRA is not cheap (you pay the same your employer + you payed)

on: We ran the numbers, and there really is a pipeline problem in engineering hiring
So much this. I don’t mind running interviews, but I don’t think I’m particularly good at running them, especially in the “making the candidate feel comfortable” angle. With engineering having such an outsized proportion of introverts and, for the lack of a better term, oddballs, we could take a better look at who _should_ be interviewing.

That could be true, but communication has to be a point of evaluation for most jobs.

Of course not - Democrats can do no wrong in Silicon Valley. But seriously, there has been a pretty big lack of mentions of the Obama campaign in the coverage of this story.
Maybe the story wouldn't have been a story if it weren't tied to Trump 2016.

on: Show HN: git self-blame – Blame yourself for others' mistakes
I realize this is a bit of a joke, but does anyone else think "blameless" culture has gone a bit too far? I think it's important to stress that everyone makes mistakes, and that it's okay to make mistakes, but at the end of the day, if someone broke something or caused a bug, they should know about it so it doesn't happen again.

on: My Experience as a Female CS Major
Actually, I've noticed that there's a lot of arrogant assholes in the collegiate Computer Science atmosphere, maybe more so than in other fields.
But it has nothing to do with the gender issue. These "jerks" will be jerks to anyone who isn't at their level, male or female - I even caught myself sounding a little condescending today during a group study session.
