People are sick and tired of anti-white (pro-nonwhite) de jure policies and replacement immigration. They feel this country is their rightful homeland and are angry that they had no vote in being replaced. These reactions could have been predicted and were. I guess you can call that "racist" and "white supremacist" but the name-calling just eggs them on and is "not an argument." Instead, let's explain why the white era that started in Athens is now over and that's just natural progress. And if they are genocided in the process well that would be sad. Or I guess we could just dox them.

these misogynist women-hating lunks turn my stomach. They need to terminated immediately, be humiliated on social media and have their careers ruined forever. They can wear their stupid war jackets while they cry.

probably better to be silent than to feed the alt-right, neo-Nazi trolls. Why can't privileged white people just keep quiet and listen for a while. It's time we recognize the tremendous contribution to computer science made by African-Americans. There is no place on HN for intolerance and hate.

I thought I was the only one who though this. I am not a software engineer the same way I am not a software doctor or a software banana for that matter. Reminds me of, was it Rosanne Barr?, who coined "Domestic Engineer" and we all laughed. Words matter. I can see from these comments that we are alone but at least it's not just me anymore!

Voluntary charity is always an option for you. Don't most people mean mandatory, state-controlled taking from you to give to someone else when discussing this subject? Would you support "measurably reducing" my income so you don't get robbed? So I don't get robbed?

I hear much concern, not necessarily from you, about the effects on productivity of taking. Do you fear any effects on people's psyche, self-esteem for instance, of giving?

Beloved FDR, in his state 1935 SOTU address said "To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit."

I worry that hundreds if not thousands of years of various types of market economics has ingrained much into our humanity, and that progressive notions like UBI and redistribution will have deleterious unintended consequences.

If I get a check for X and my cardiologist gets a check for X as well why would anyone put in the work to become a cardiologist? For his love of mankind? For social status? Serious question. Didn't the 20th-century Marxists try this?

Alex Epstien, who is widely despised, has written, in The Moral Case For Fossil Fuels that to withhold cheap abundant energy, and the technology it enables, from the world's emerging populations is immoral and fundamentally anti-human. Supported by people who think this Earth would be a much better place if Man never set his filthy foot upon it.

grb423 | 9 years ago | on: Why I won’t give talks about being a woman in tech

This is very refreshing. Diversity is a key to strength but seeing a woman present tech stuff is my preference at a tech conference. I was at a conference recently and I heard a neckbeard, seeing a woman warming up for the presentation we just sat down for, say something dismissive about another diversity talk. He actually left without sitting down. His loss. The talk was pure tech gold.

As the OP says, the diversity presentations should be left to the diversity professionals.
