In a round-about-way you are hinting at the 'science is a religion' mentality. If something can't be explained by current scientific knowledge then, the people who think that way, must have the idea shot down and disregarded. It's a binary thought pattern that would probably be less common if history (and philosophy) had a greater value in society.

When I look at the coverage, it seems like the news outlets are obsessed because Trump doesn't fit their world view. He caters for a demographic that those outlets have left behind. The page views aren't overly high because what he says isn't as outrageous as they think.

Trump has support in a lot of places that you wouldn't expect, few will admit supporting him in public because they get responses like it is 'unimaginable'. Thiel has the money/power so there's nothing for him to fear.

I long suspected something like that. Let MS purchase and restructure a sinking ship. Allow the talent to move on and do R&D on the cheap via startups. Once the restrictions of the deal end, see what's flourished and return to the consumer market. I assumed Jolla but this other entity got it.
